THEY ARE HOPING TO GET ENOUGH SIGNATURES FOR A RECALL OF ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF K-P GIBSON OVER CONCERNS OF INMATE’S RIGHTS AND THE INJURY OF TROY YOKUM DURING AN ARREST. THEY ALSO WANT TO RECALL CROWLEY ALDERMAN LYLE FOGELMAN, WHO WAS REPORTEDLY CAUGHT ON CAMERA MAKING A THROAT SLASHING GESTURE TOWARD PROTESTERS AT A COUNCIL MEETING. THE GROUPS ARE ALSO SEEKING TO RECALL BALDWIN POLICE CHIEF HARRY SMITH AND SIXTEENTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY BO DUHE IN CONNECTION WITH THE INVESTIGATION OF THE DEATH OF FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD QUAWAN CHARLES.

IT IS IN RESPONSE TO LAFAYETTE MAYOR PRESIDENT JOSH GUILLORY, WHO LAST WEEK ASKED WHAT THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY IS DOING TO MITIGATE THE SURGE. OUR LADY OF LOURDES CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER HENRY KAUFMAN SAYS THERE’S BEEN A SIGNIFICANT RISE IN COVID-NINETEEN POSITIVE CASES IN THE COMMUNITY THOUGH IT HASN’T HIT THE HOSPITALS YET, BUT IT’S EXPECTED IN A WEEK OR TWO. HE SAYS THEY ARE GETTING READY FOR THAT BY EXPANDING THE AVAILABLE BEDS AND GATHERING A ROBUST SUPPLY OF THE THINGS THEY NEED TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AND TO TAKE CARE OF PATIENTS.
COVID-NINETEEN CASES TOOK ANOTHER MAJOR JUMP YESTERDAY WITH MORE THAN TWO THOUSAND NEW CASES IN LOUISIANA. THAT MOVES THE TOTAL OVER ONE HUNDRED NINETY-NINE THOUSAND. THERE ARE FOURTEEN MORE DEATHS IN THE STATE, ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. HOSPITALIZATIONS GREW BY FIFTY-SIX TODAY. THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS ON VENTILATORS IS UP BY NINE.
SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA HAD NO NEW DEATHS FOR THE SECOND DAY IN A ROW. ACADIANA SAW THREE MORE DEATHS. THEY WERE IN ACADIA, LAFAYETTE AND ST. LANDRY PARISHES. ACADIANA REPORTED FIVE HUNDRED THIRTEEN NEW CASES, INCLUDING ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-NINE IN LAFAYETTE PARISH. THE TOTAL IS OVER THIRTY THOUSAND FOR THE FIRST TIME, TO THIRTY THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED SIXTY-THREE. THE TOTAL CASES IN SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA ROSE BY NINETY-EIGHT TO FOURTEEN THOUSAND. CALCASIEU PARISH HAD THE MOST WITH SIXTY-EIGHT.
A SUSPECT WAS PEACEFULLY TAKEN INTO CUSTODY TUESDAY AFTER A STANDOFF WITH POLICE IN ACADIA PARISH. SYLVIA MASTERS REPORTS.

A MAN WAS SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES ON NORTH WASHINGTON STREET YESTERDAY EVENING. POLICE RECEIVED A CALL ABOUT THE SHOOTING AND ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AT AROUND SIX P-M, WHERE THEY FOUND THE VICTIM LYING IN THE STREET. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE IS IN STABLE CONDITION WITH WOUNDS THAT ARE NOT CONSIDERED LIFE THREATENING. POLICE DO NOT HAVE A SUSPECT AT THIS TIME.
ABBEVILLE POLICE HAVE MADE A SECOND ARREST IN CONNECTION WITH A FATAL SHOOTING ON NOVEMBER THIRD. A SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD BOY WAS SHOT AND KILLED ON KIBBE STREET, WHICH LED TO THE ARREST THE NEXT DAY OF TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD RYHEEM VENEY OF ABBEVILLE FOR FIRST DEGREE MURDER AND ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER. YESTERDAY THEY BOOKED TWENTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD JAVONTAE VENEY OF ABBEVILLE ON THE SAME CHARGES. VENEY WAS FOUND AT A RESIDENCE IN JENNINGS WHERE OFFICIALS BELIEVE HE WAS HIDING.
Louisiana is starting work to widen Interstate 10 in the southwestern part of the state. The $152 million project is expected to take five years. The work will widen more than 10 miles of I-10 in Calcasieu Parish to six lanes, from the Texas state line to east of LA 108. Ten bridges will be replaced and widened as part of the project.
