THE YOUNGSVILLE POLICE CHIEF WAS INJURED IN A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT YESTERDAY MORNING. CHIEF RICKEY BOUDREAUX WAS ON THE I-TEN FRONTAGE ROAD NEAR THE DUSON EXIT WHEN HE WIPED OUT ON SOME SLICK ROADS. BOUDREAUX TELLS KLFY TV THAT HE FRACTURED HIS BACK AND HAD TO HAVE OUTPATIENT SURGERY TO, AS HE PUT IT, “CEMENT” HIS BACK. BOUDREAUX SAYS HE’S IN GOOD SPIRITS BUT WILL BE OUT OF THE OFFICE UNTIL WEDNESDAY.
CALCASIEU PARISH SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ARRESTED A MAN YESTERDAY ON A NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE CHARGE. DIDIER DARIO-CABIELES WAS DECLARED DEAD BY EMERGENCY PERSONNEL AT A HOME ON HIGHWAY 90 EAST IN LAKE CHARLES. IT WAS LATER LEARNED THAT A FAMILY MEMBER, ERIXON AGUILAR-CABIELES, ALLEGEDLY TIED UP DIDIER WITH CABLE WIRE AND LEFT HIM FACE DOWN ON A BED BECAUSE HE WAS INTOXICATED AND CAUSING A DISTURBANCE. IT WAS DETERMINED BY DETECTIVES THAT DIDIER DIED BECAUSE HE WAS IMMOBILIZED AND UNABLE TO CARE FOR HIMSELF.

Louisiana will be part of a national pilot project to create a rating system to judge the quality of the state’s addiction treatment programs. The state health department announced Louisiana’s inclusion in the project, saying it will join Massachusetts and New York in the partnership with the national nonprofit organization Shatterproof. Louisiana’s Office of Behavioral Health will set the standardized rating system over 24 months. If the pilot program is successful, the rating system will be launched nationwide.

A hot air balloon festival is coming to southwest Louisiana, with the first night being an alcohol-free “Church Night”. The festival is scheduled July 19 and 20 at Chennault International Airport in Lake Charles. Airport Executive Director Kevin Melton tells The American Press it’s an educational opportunity, since human flight began with balloons. Pat Harwell, who holds a world distance record for balloon flight without a basket, will be overseeing balloon operations at the festival.
FIVE PEOPLE WERE INJURED SATURDAY NIGHT IN VERMILLION PARISH WHEN THEIR VEHICLE WAS SLAMMED FROM BEHIND BY A SUSPECTED DRUNK DRIVER. 39-YEAR-OLD ANDREW REED OF ABBEVILLE WAS TRAVELING SOUTH ON HIGHWAY 167 WHEN HIS VEHICLE WAS KNOCKED OFF THE ROAD INTO A DITCH, STRIKING AN ENBANKMENT. REED, WHO WASN’T WEARING A SEAT BELT, SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES AND THE FOUR OCCUPANTS, INCLUDING THREE JUVENILES, WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH CRITICAL TO MODERATE INJURIES. THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE, 67-YEAR-OLD JOHN GREENE OF KAPLAN, WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES INCLUDING FIRST OFFENSE D-W-I AND FIVE COUNTS OF VEHICLE NEGLIGENT INJURY.
A MORSE MAN WAS BOOKED INTO THE ACADIA PARISH JAIL ON A CHARGE OF REVENGE PORNOGRAPHY AND DEFAMATION BY MALICIOUS PUBLICATION. MORSE POLICE CHIEF JASON COATS SAYS 55-YEAR-OLD EDDIE LAUGHLIN POSTED PHOTOS OF AN EX-GIRLFRIEND ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND MADE LEWD COMMENTS. MORSE POLICE WERE ASSISTED BY CROWLEY POLICE IN HIS ARREST. LAUGHLIN FACES UP TO TWO YEARS IN PRISON AND FINES UP TO TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IF CONVICTED.
