A PRAYER VIGIL WAS HELD YESTERDAY EVENING AT THE ACADIA PARISH COURTHOUSE FOR UVALDE, TEXAS, WHERE AN EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD MAN KILLED NINETEEN CHILDREN AND TWO ADULTS AT A SCHOOL. DOZENS OF PEOPLE WERE THERE INCLUDING POLICE OFFICERS, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN. CHAD MONCEAUX ORGANIZED THE VIGIL. HE TELLS KLFY TV THAT IT’S IMPORTANT TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER AND SHOW LOVE FOR HUMANITY.
YOUNGSVILLE POLICE CHIEF RICKEY BOUDREAUX SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT IS GETTING CALLS FROM PARENTS AND CITIZENS CONCERNED ABOUT THE USE OF AIRSOFT GUNS IN THE CITY. HE SAYS THE AIRSOFT GUNS LOOK LIKE REAL WEAPONS WITH AN ORANGE TIP BUT THE KIDS ARE COLORING THE TIP. BOUDREAUX SAYS PASSERSBY MAY NOT REALIZE THAT THEY ARE PLAYING A GAME. HE TELLS KLFY TV THAT THERE COULD BE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES IF KIDS ARE CAUGHT PLAYING WITH TOY GUNS IRRESPONSIBLY BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED A WEAPON.
Louisiana’s bond credit rating has moved up a notch. State Treasurer John Schroder said the new rating by Moody’s Investors Service will save the state about $750,000 a year in interest for every $300 million in bonds issued. Moody’s said Wednesday that Louisiana has made significant progress restoring its financial reserves and liquidity. Gov. John Bel Edwards says it’s “yet another step in the right direction for Louisiana’s financial outlook.”
A PEDESTRIAN WAS KILLED NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF L-A HIGHWAY ONE-OH-ONE AND GRO RACCA ROAD IN JEFF DAVIS PARISH AT AROUND ONE A-M YESTERDAY MORNING. STATE POLICE SAY THE PEDESTRIAN WAS STRUCK BY A PICKUP TRUCK WHILE WALKING IN THE NORTHBOUND LANE OF HIGHWAY ONE-OH-ONE. THE PEDESTRIAN WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. THE DRIVER OF THE PICKUP, WHO SHOWED NO SIGNS OF IMPAIRMENT, WAS NOT INJURED. THE CRASH REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

The Biden administration says $33 million in infrastructure money will be used to clean up some 277 of an estimated 15,000 abandoned oil and gas wells on federal land. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland says the money is part of $250 million provided through the infrastructure law for cleaning up orphaned wells and well sites on federal public lands, national parks, national wildlife refuges and national forests. Wildlife refuges and a park in Louisiana hold 163 of the high priority wells covered in Wednesday’s announcement. President Joe Biden signed the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure plan on Monday.

HIS MOTHER, ALINE MENARD, SAYS IT MEANT THE WORLD TO HER TO SEE HER SON’S SMILE AGAIN AND TO SEE HIS FRIENDS WITH HIM TO CELEBRATE.
