THE LOUISIANA HOUSING CORPORATION HAS MANDATED THAT THE MANAGEMENT OF THE HIMBOLA MANOR APARTMENTS INSPECT EACH UNIT.  RESIDENTS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT MOLD, COLLAPSED CEILINGS AND BROKEN PLUMBING.  IN A NOTICE FROM MANAGEMENT, RESIDENTS WERE WARNED THAT VIOLATIONS WOULD BE GIVEN FOR UNREPORTED REPAIRS AND HOUSEKEEPING ISSUES.  CITY COUNCILMAN ELROY BROUSSARD TELLS KLFY TV THAT HE INTERPRETS THAT AS MEANING, IF DAMAGE IS FOUND THAT WAS CAUSED BY A TENANT, THE TENANT WOULD BE CHARGED.

TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD AALIYAH JACK OF LAKE CHARLES CONFESSED TO KPLC TV THAT SHE KILLED HER FOUR-YEAR-OLD SON WHILE ON DRUGS AND ABANDONED HER ONE-YEAR-OLD SON.  JACK WAS ARRESTED IN MISSISSIPPI AND TRANSPORTED BACK TO LAKE CHARLES OVER THE WEEKEND.  SHE APPEARED BEFORE A JUDGE THIS WEEK THROUGH A VIDEO CALL FROM THE CALCASIEU CORRECTIONAL CENTER.  HER PUBLIC DEFENDER SAYS HE MAY FILE A MOTION FOR A BOND REDUCTION HEARING, BECAUSE HE CONSIDERS THE NINE-POINT-ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN BONDS EXCESSIVE.

 

NEW LOUISIANA LAWS AFFECTING ABSENTEE BALLOTING TAKE EFFECT AUGUST FIRST.  SECRETARY OF STATE NANCY LANDRY SAYS THEY WILL BOOST LOUISIANA’S ELECTION INTEGRITY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.  UNDER ACT THREE-EIGHTY, VOTERS MAY ONLY MAIL IN ONE BALLOT THAT DOESN’T BELONG TO THEM OR AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER WHILE ACT THREE-OH-TWO PREVENTS ANYONE FROM ASSISTING MORE THAN ONE VOTER WITH AN ABSENTEE BALLOT UNLESS IT’S AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER.  ANOTHER LAW ALLOWS BOARDS OF ELECTION SUPERVISORS TO CHALLENGE BALLOTS WITH MISSING INFORMATION, AND THEY WILL NOT BE COUNTED IF THE CHALLENGE IS SUSTAINED.

 

FORMER LAFAYETTE POLICE CHIEF THOMAS GLOVER’S FEDERAL LAWSUIT AGAINST THE LAFAYETTE CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT AND FORMER MAYOR-PRESIDENT JOSH GUILLORY HAS BEEN DISMISSED.  GLOVER WAS FIRED IN OCTOBER OF TWENTY-TWENTY-ONE AFTER JUST TEN MONTHS ON THE JOB.  GLOVER, WHO IS BLACK, CLAIMED THAT HE WAS FIRED DUE TO HIS RACE AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION AND THEN FILED THE FEDERAL LAWSUIT IN FEBRUARY OF LAST YEAR.  ON MONDAY, U-S DISTRICT COURT JUDGE DAVID JOSEPH ISSUED A SUMMARY JUDGEMENT DISMISSING THE LAWSUIT.

 

 

 

 

A TURKEY CREEK MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER SEVERAL MARIJUANA PLANTS WERE FOUND ON HIS PROPERTY.  NARCOTICS AGENTS WITH THE EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE RECEIVED INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLANTS AND SIXTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD KENT CHADDRICK ALLOWED THEM TO INSPECT HIS RESIDENCE ON SADDLER STREET IN TURKEY CREEK.  THEY FOUND FORTY-FIVE MARIJUANA PLANTS RANGING FROM EIGHT INCHES TO EIGHT FEET TALL.  CHADDRICK FACES NUMEROUS DRUG AND WEAPONS CHARGES.

 

A FIRE DISTRICT IN ALLEN PARISH IS STRUGGLING TO SERVE ITS COVERAGE AREA.  THE WARD THREE, FIRE DISTRICT TWO STATION NEEDS MORE VOLUNTEERS TO REACH AREAS THEY ARE NOT CURRENTLY ABLE TO COVER.  ASSISTANT CHIEF ANTHONY DOUCET SAYS THEY CURRENTLY HAVE AROUND FIFTEEN VOLUNTEERS BUT THEY’D LIKE TO HAVE AT LEAST THIRTY.  HE SAYS THIS IS A PROBLEM NOT JUST IN ALLEN PARISH BUT THROUGHOUT LOUISIANA AND ACROSS THE NATION.

 

SOME RESIDENTS IN SUNSET WERE CONCERNED ABOUT A WIRE HANGING LOW FROM POWER POLES BECAUSE IT IS BEING HELD UP BY A LADDER.  IT’S LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF BEGNAUD ROAD AND L-A NINETY-THREE.  KADN-TV HAS LEARNED THAT THE WIRE BELONGS TO ALLEN’S CABLE T-V IN SUNSET.  THEY SAY ENGINEERS HAVE BEEN HELD UP BY THE WET WEATHER, BUT THE ISSUE WILL BE HANDLED LATER THIS WEEK.
