THE NUMBER OF CORONAVIRUS CASES TOOK A MAJOR JUMP IN TODAY’S REPORT WITH ONE THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-EIGHT MORE CASES.  THE TOTAL IS NOW THIRTY-SIX THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED FOUR.  THE LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAYS SIX HUNDRED THIRTY-TWO OF THOSE CASES  ARE FROM TWENTY-THREE LABS THAT ARE REPORTING FOR THE FIRST TIME.  SOME OF THOSE CASES STRETCH BACK TO MARCH TWENTY-FIFTH.  THERE ARE TWENTY-ONE MORE DEATHS IN LOUISIANA FOR A TOTAL OF TWO THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED SIX.  THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS HOSPITALIZED CONTINUES DOWNWARD.  THERE ARE FORTY-SEVEN FEWER PATIENTS FOR A TOTAL OF EIGHT-HUNDRED-EIGHTY-FOUR.  THERE ARE THREE FEWER PATIENTS ON VENTILATORS.

 

IN ACADIANA, THERE ARE ONE HUNDRED THREE MORE CASES OF CORONAVIRUS.  MOST OF THAT IS FROM IBERIA PARISH WITH TWENTY-FIVE MORE AND LAFAYETTE PARISH WITH AN ADDITIONAL TWENTY-FOUR.  THE TOTAL IN ACADIANA IS TWO THOUSAND TWO-HUNDRED THIRTY-SIX.  THERE ARE JUST THREE MORE DEATHS, ALL IN ACADIA PARISH.  THE TOTAL IS ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY.

 

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA SAW FORTY-FIVE MORE CASES FOR A TOTAL OF EIGHT HUNDRED FORTY-NINE.  CALCASIEU PARISH ADDED TWENTY-SEVEN WHILE ALLEN PARISH HAS FIFTEEN MORE.  THERE ARE NO ADDITIONAL DEATHS.  THE TOTAL STANDS AT SIXTY-TWO.

 

  1. MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES, EXECUTING A SEARCH WARRANT AT A HOUSE ON THE COTEAU HOLMES HIGHWAY IN ST. MARTINVILLE, FOUND A NUMBER OF ILLEGAL DRUGS AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS. THEY ALSO FOUND A LARGE AMOUNT OF CASH AND PACKAGING MATERIALS. THREE PEOPLE FROM ST. MARTINVILLE WERE ARRESTED FOR POSSESSING DRUGS WITH THE INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE.  DEPUTIES ARE SEARCHING FOR A FOURTH SUSPECT ON FELONY DISTRIBUTION CHARGES…FORTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD KENNETH KENU BROUSSARD OF ST. MARTINVILLE.

 

State and federal data show that about 28,800 Louisiana residents filed for unemployment last week. That’s more than 12 times as many as a year earlier, but the lowest number since pandemic restrictions began pounding the state’s economy.  More than 321,700 people were getting state unemployment payments last week. That was down about 3,400 from the previous week but nearly 24 times the 13,500 people on unemployment a year earlier.

A ONE-YEAR-OLD TODDLER WAS FOUND BY JEFF DAVIS PARISH SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES WANDERING ALONE IN A YARD ON JEFF DAVIS ACADEMY ROAD.  TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD MELANIE MICAH REED WAS CHARGED WITH CHILD ABANDONMENT AND DEPUTIES FOUND THAT SHE HAD ALSO AN OUTSTANDING WARRANT.  REED TOLD THE DEPUTIES THAT HER SEVEN-YEAR-OLD AND THREE-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN WERE SUPPOSED TO BE WATCHING THE ONE-YEAR-OLD BUT THEY WERE FOUND INSIDE A TRAILER.  CHIEF DEPUTY CHRIS IVEY SAYS THE CHILDREN WERE PLACED IN THE CUSTODY OF A GRANDMOTHER.

 

AN OPELOUSAS MAN DROWNED RECENTLY IN THE GULF WHILE VACATIONING LAST WEEKEND IN BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI.  AARON JACK NOEL WAS FIFTY-SIX-YEARS-OLD.  HIS FAMILY SAYS THEY WERE TOLD BY DOCTORS THAT HE MAY HAVE SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK BEFORE THE DROWNING.  PHYLLIS BERNARD NOEL TELLS KLFY TV THAT THE DOCTORS WERE ALMOST POSITIVE THAT AARON HAD A MAJOR HEART ATTACK CAUSING HIS FACE TO GO DOWN IN THE WATER, WHERE HE DROWNED.  HIS DAUGHTER, CHASSITY NOEL, HAS SET UP A GO FUND ME ACCOUNT TO HELP WITH FUNERAL EXPENSES SINCE AARON DIDN’T HAVE INSURANCE.
