OPELOUSAS POLICE HAVE ISSUED A WARRANT FOR ONE SUSPECT IN A SHOOTING THAT TOOK THE LIFE OF A FOUR-YEAR-OLD GIRL AND A FORTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD MAN.  POLICE HAVE NOT RELEASED THE SUSPECT’S NAME.  THE MOTHER OF THE FOUR-YEAR-OLD GIRL, IESHA THOMAS, TELLS KLFY TV THAT THE MEN WHO RAN INTO HER APARTMENT JUST STARTED SHOOTING.  SHE SAYS SHE HEARD FIFTEEN SHOTS COMING FROM THE FRONT ROOM AND HER DAUGHTER, RAKATELYN COLLA, DIED IN THE APARTMENT.

 

A LAFAYETTE MAN, WHOSE DAUGHTER DIED FROM A FENTANYL OVERDOSE, TESTIFIED IN A STATE HOUSE COMMITTEE IN SUPPORT OF HOUSE BILL EIGHT-FORTY-FOUR.  THAT BILL, IF PASSED, WOULD ALLOW COURTS TO IMPOSE LIGHTER SENTENCES FOR DEALERS OF FENTANYL IN EXCHANGE FOR PROVIDING SUBSTANTIAL ASSISTANCE TO INVESTIGATORS.  BOB BROUSSARD SAYS HIS DAUGHTER, WHO WAS NOT AN ADDICT, DECIDED, ALONG WITH TWO FRIENDS, TO PURCHASE A GRAM OF COCAINE THAT WAS LACED WITH FENTANYL AND ALL THREE OVERDOSED AND HIS DAUGHTER DID NOT SURVIVE.  THE BILL MADE IT OUT OF COMMITTEE AND WILL GO BEFORE THE FULL HOUSE.

THE MAYOR OF IOWA, PAUL HESSE, SAYS THERE ARE PLANS IN THE WORKS TO REPAIR BASEBALL FIELDS.  THEY’VE BEEN DAMAGED BY THE TWENTY-TWENTY HURRICANES AND IT INCLUDES BROKEN FENCES AND DOWNED LIGHTS.  IOWA HAS ALREADY SPENT HALF A MILLION DOLLARS TO MAKE SOME REPAIRS INCLUDING FIXING THE FIELD’S DRAINAGE.  THE TOWN IS EXPECTED TO SEEK BIDS ON THE BUDDY BALL PARK BY JUNE AND THEN MOVE FORWARD WITH GETTING TWO OF THE FOUR FIELDS READY SOMETIME THIS YEAR.

 

JEANERETTE POLICE HAVE RELEASED SECURITY FOOTAGE ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE OF A SHOOTING YESTERDAY IN THE CANDLEWOOD ESTATES AREA.  THE VIDEO SHOWS A VEHICLE ARRIVING IN THE AREA, THEN THREE INDIVIDUALS GET OUT, WALK UP TO A HOME AND SHOOT MULTIPLE TIMES.  POLICE ARE CONTINUING TO INVESTIGATE THE SHOOTING AND FOLLOWING ANY LEADS.  IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION ON THE SHOOTING, YOU’RE URGED TO CALL THE JEANERETTE POLICE DEPARTMENT AT TWO-SEVEN-SIX-SIXTY-THREE-TWENTY-THREE.

 

A BOMB THREAT WAS CALLED IN TO THE DAVID THIBODEAUX STEM MAGNET ACADEMY IN LAFAYETTE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.  THE SCHOOL WAS EVACUATED AND DEPUTIES AND FIREFIGHTERS CONDUCTED A SWEEP.  LATER THE ALL-CLEAR WAS GIVEN AND STUDENTS WERE DISMISSED.

THE EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS TRYING TO IDENTIFY A SUSPECT WHO STOLE A GOLF CART FROM THE CROOKED CREEK CAMP ON APRIL TWENTY-FIRST.  THE GOLF CART WAS ABANDONED IN THE ONE THOUSAND BLOCK OF PIONEER ROAD AND RETURNED TO THE OWNER.  THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS RELEASED A PHOTO OF THE SUSPECT IN THE GOLF CART ON THEIR WEBSITE, EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF-DOT-ORG, BUT IT IS BLURRY.  ANYONE WHO CAN IDENTIFY THE SUSPECT IS ASKED TO CONTACT DEPUTIES AT THREE-SIX-THREE-TWENTY-ONE-SIXTY-ONE.
