OFFICIALS FOR A PLANNED LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS PLANT IN CAMERON PARISH ANNOUNCED THAT IT IS GOING TO EXPAND BY 500 ACRES.  G2 L-N-G OFFICIALS SAID THEY DECIDED TO EXPAND THE PLANT BECAUSE OF RISING INTEREST BY POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS.  LAST WEEK, COMPANY PRESIDENT THOMAS HUDSON SAID CONSTRUCTION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN NEXT YEAR AND THEY EXPECT TO MAKE THEIR FIRST DELIVERY OF L-N-G BY 2022.  THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE 35-HUNDRED CONSTRUCTION JOBS AND 250 PERMANENT JOBS.

 

TRAVELERS ON I-TEN IN ACADIA PARISH COULD EXPERIENCE SOME TRAVEL DELAYS THIS MORNING.  THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND DEVELOPMENT IS CONDUCTING BRIDGE INSPECTIONS.  AS A RESULT, THEY ARE CLOSING THE OUTSIDE WESTBOUND LANE OF INTERSTATE TEN BETWEEN EXIT 80 IN CROWLEY AND EXIT 76.  THE WORK IS ESTIMATED TO TAKE PLACE BETWEEN 7:30 AND TEN THIS MORNING.

 

Early voting has opened for the March 25 municipal elections around Louisiana.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler’s office says voters can start casting ballots for local candidate and proposition elections and to fill three open seats in the Louisiana House of Representatives. The early voting period ends Saturday.

Elections are being held in 37 parishes.  Early voting runs daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at local parish registrar of voters’ offices and other designated locations.

 

THE DIFFERENT BRANCHES OF THE LAFAYETTE LIBRARY SYSTEM WILL BE DISPLAYING PHOTO EXHIBITS OF TEMPORARY CLASSROOMS AT LAFAYETTE PARISH SCHOOLS.  THE EXHIBIT IS AN EFFORT BY THE SCHOOL SYSTEM TO CONVINCE VOTERS OF THE NEED OF A TEN YEAR, HALF CENT SALES TAX TO REPLACE THOSE CLASSROOMS.  THE EXHIBIT SHOWS THE TWELVE CAMPUSES THAT WOULD RECEIVE NEW WINGS OR BUILDINGS IF THE TAX IS APPROVED.  VOTERS WILL DECIDE THE FATE OF THE NEW TAX ON APRIL 29TH.

An 18-year-old Louisiana man has been arrested for what authorities say were inappropriate text messages to a 14-year-old girl — including, “You better be worth risking going to jail.”  The St. Landry Parish sheriff’s spokesman, Maj. Eddie Thibodeaux, says George Thomas Wiley III of Krotz Springs is free on $13,500 bond after his arrest Thursday on charges including computer-aided solicitation of a minor.  Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says in a news release that a parent called detectives after checking the girl’s text messages.  Guidroz says the jail comment came after a question about the girl’s age.

 

Louisiana is looking for lending organizations to dole out aid to qualifying small businesses impacted by the March and August 2016 floods.  The state’s flood recovery task force says the Office of Community Development is seeking nonprofits, community development financial institutions and federal credit unions to administer partially-forgivable loans through the Restore Louisiana Small Business Program.  The application period opened Friday and will continue through April 11. Program information and criteria are available online through the state Disaster Recovery Unit website.
