LAFAYETTE POLICE RESPONDED TO A HIT-AND-RUN INVOLVING A PEDESTRIAN EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. DANIELLE DUNCAN REPORTS.

A MAN WAS SHOT TO DEATH BY A FAMILY MEMBER LATE FRIDAY NIGHT IN PORT BARRE. THE VICTIM IS THIRTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD PERCY JONES. POLICE CHIEF DEON BOUDREAUX SAYS THAT, BASED ON WITNESS STATEMENTS, THEY IDENTIFIED A FAMILY MEMBER AS THE SHOOTER. POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR THE FAMILY MEMBER, WHOSE NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED, AND WHO WAS NOT AT THE SCENE WHEN POLICE ARRIVED.
THE REGULAR SESSION OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE BEGINS TODAY. THE BILLS FOCUS ON DIFFERENT ISSUES INCLUDING FORBIDDING LESSONS ON GENDER AND SEXUALITY, PROHIBITING COVID-NINETEEN VACCINE MANDATES, BANNING CELL PHONES IN SCHOOL AND PROVIDING INTENSIVE TUTORING FOR STRUGGLING STUDENTS. A MASSIVE GREAT WHITE SHARK WAS TRACKED OFF THE COAST OF SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA YESTERDAY. THE SHARK WAS TAGGED OFF THE COAST OF SOUTH CAROLINA IN DECEMBER AND IS TRACKED BY SATELLITE ANYTIME IT NEARS THE SURFACE OF THE WATER. THE SHARK IS JUST OVER FOURTEEN FEET LONG AND WEIGHS TWENTY-SIX HUNDRED POUNDS. RESEARCHERS WITH THE ATLANTIC WHITE SHARK CONSERVANCY BELIEVE THE SHARK WILL MIGRATE BACK TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA AREA WHEN THE WEATHER GETS WARMER.
TWO MEN ARE WANTED FOR THE SHOOTING AND KILLING OF EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD JAYLIN JOINER, THE CARENCRO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WHO WAS SHOT WHILE GETTING OFF A SCHOOL BUS ON MARCH FIRST. NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD DA-MARION ROY AND TWENTY-YEAR-OLD TODD ARCENEAUX JUNIOR, WHO ARE NOT STUDENTS AT THE SCHOOL, ARE WANTED FOR SECOND-DEGREE MURDER. ANOTHER PERSON HAS ALREADY BEEN ARRESTED ON THE SECOND-DEGREE MURDER CHARGE, NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD MALIKAI DOUCET. FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF JOINER AND DOUCET GATHERED SATURDAY FOR A PRAYER WALK ON BRADFORD STREET, AT THE SITE OF THE SHOOTING.
AN EIGHTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD WOMAN WAS KILLED IN SAINT MARTIN PARISH FRIDAY AFTERNOON WHEN SHE WAS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE WHILE CROSSING A HIGHWAY. STATE POLICE SAY JANNELL DORE OF BREAUX BRIDGE WAS WALKING WEST ATTEMPTING TO CROSS L-A THREE-FORTY-SEVEN WHEN SHE WAS STRUCK BY A NISSAN TITAN. THE DRIVER OF THE NISSAN WAS NOT INJURED. IT’S NOT KNOWN IF DORE WAS IMPAIRED, BUT A STANDARD TOXICOLOGY SAMPLE WAS TAKEN WHILE THE DRIVER SUBMITTED A BREATH SAMPLE SHOWING NO ALCOHOL PRESENT.

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD GIRL WAS SHOT THURSDAY AFTERNOON ON WEST ANDRUS DRIVE IN CROWLEY WHILE WALKING WITH HER FATHER FROM THE SCHOOL BUS STOP. DETECTIVES WITH THE CROWLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT LEARNED THAT TWO MEN, AT LEAST ONE OF THEM CARRYING A HANDGUN, STARTED SHOOTING AT ANOTHER MAN WITH LOTS OF PEOPLE OUTSIDE, INCLUDING MANY CHILDREN. THE DETECTIVES SAID THEY RECEIVED LOTS OF TIPS AND HAVE SEVERAL PERSONS OF INTEREST THAT THEY ARE INVESTIGATING. THE GIRL WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER THE SHOOTING BUT HER INJURIES WERE NOT CONSIDERED LIFE-THREATENING.
