A LAFAYETTE POLICE OFFICER WAS REINSTATED BY THE FIRE AND POLICE BOARD YESTERDAY.  THE THIRD CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS HAD ORDERED THE BOARD TO GIVE OFFICER JEREMY ROBERTS A FULL HEARING AND THEY RULED HE HAD NOT BEEN FIRED FOR GOOD FAITH AND CAUSE.  LAFAYETTE MAYOR PRESIDENT JOSH GUILLORY HAD FIRED ROBERTS AFTER AN INCIDENT THAT LED TO HIS SUSPENSION.  HE WAS SUSPENDED FOR ONE DAY WITHOUT PAY AFTER HE TOOK A WOMAN, WHO WAS BASHING HER HEAD INSIDE HIS UNIT, AND HOGTIED HER ON THE GROUND, WHICH IS A MOVE BARRED BY DEPARTMENT POLICY.

 

A KINDER MAN WAS ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY HARRASSING TWO CHILDREN AND FIRING A WEAPON IN AN R-V PARK.  A WOMAN REPORTED THAT HER CHILDREN WERE PLAYING OUTSIDE WHEN TWO MEN STARTED SHOOTING ACROSS THE ROAD AND TALKING INAPPROPRIATELY TO HER CHILDREN.  JEFF DAVIS PARISH SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES TOLD THE MEN THEY HAD VIDEO AND EVIDENCE OF THEIR SHOOTING WHICH LED SEVENTY-YEAR-OLD JOHN WEBSTER ROBERTS TO ADMIT THE SHOOTING.  HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE JEFF DAVIS PARISH JAIL ON A CHARGE OF ILLEGAL DISCHARGE OF A FIREARM AND THREE COUNTS OF POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A FELON.

 

ACCORDING TO A RECENT STUDY, LOUISIANA HAS THE HIGHEST AVERAGE SALES TAX OF ANY STATE.  SYLVIA MASTERS HAS THE DETAILS.

FORMER SAINT MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF’S DEPUTY CHRYSTAL CLUES-ALEXANDER WAS GIVEN A TWENTY-ONE-YEAR-SENTENCE IN THE DECEMBER TWENTY-THIRTEEN MURDER OF HER HUSBAND, KENDELL ALEXANDER.  CLUES SHOT HER HUSBAND ELEVEN TIMES, KILLING HIM.  SHE PLED GUILTY IN TWENTY-EIGHTEEN TO A REDUCED CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER, THEN APPEALED HER PLEA IN TWENTY-TWENTY-TWO, WHICH WAS DENIED.  THE VICTIM’S MOTHER, MARIE ALEXANDER, TELLS KLFY TV SHE’S WAITED TEN YEARS FOR JUSTICE AND THE SENTENCING HAS FINALLY BROUGHT HER PEACE.

 

 

A PACK OF NINE PIGS HAD TO BE CORRALLED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON FROM BEHIND THE SUPER ONE GROCERY STORE IN SCOTT AFTER ESCAPING FROM THEIR TRANSPORT TRUCK.  THE DRIVER HAD STOPPED THE TRUCK BECAUSE OF MECHANICAL ISSUES.  WHEN THE DRIVER OPENED THE GATE TO CHECK ON THE PIGS, THEY ALL RAN OUT.  POLICE CHIEF CHAD LEGER SAYS THE PIGS HAD SOME FUN IN THE RAIN AND ROAMED THE BACK PARKING LOT OF THE STORE BEFORE BEING CAPTURED.

 

CALCASIEU PARISH SHERIFF TONY MANCUSO ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT AT A NEWS CONFERENCE YESTERDAY MORNING.  MANCUSO WAS FIRST ELECTED IN TWO THOUSAND THREE AND WAS REELECTED FOUR MORE TIMES.  MANCUSO SAYS HE KNEW IT WAS TIME BECAUSE HE DOESN’T HAVE THE DRIVE HE HAD BEFORE.  MANCUSO SAYS, IF CHIEF DEPUTY STITCH GUILLORY DECIDES TO RUN FOR HIS OFFICE, HE WILL ENDORSE HIM.

 

AN ABBEVILLE COMPANY WAS ONE OF SEVEN COMPANIES ACROSS THE STATE TO RECEIVE THE FORTY-FOURTH ANNUAL LANTERN AWARD AT A RECEPTION IN BATON ROUGE YESTERDAY.  D-AND-T CRAWFISH HAS SERVED THE ABBEVILLE COMMUNITY FOR TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS.  OWNER DON BENOIT SAYS THEY ARE HONORED TO RECEIVE THE AWARD AND CALLED IT A GOOD REFLECTION OF THE PARISH.  LANTERN AWARD RECIPIENTS ARE SELECTED BY LOUISIANA’S REGIONAL PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT DISTRICTS BASED ON THE OVERALL CONTRIBUTION OF THE MANUFACTURERS TO THEIR COMMUNITIES.
