TWO WOMEN WERE SHOT AND KILLED IN OPELOUSAS.  DANIELLE JOHNSON REPORTS.

LAFAYETTE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A SHOOTING THAT HAPPENED JUST AFTER FIVE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.  FIRST RESPONDERS FOUND A MAN SUFFERING A GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE LEG IN THE ONE HUNDRED BLOCK OF SUNNY STREET.  HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT.  ANYONE WHO HAS INFORMATION ON THE SHOOTING IS ASKED TO CALL LAFAYETTE CRIME STOPPERS AT TWO-THREE-TWO-TIPS.

 

THE INTERIM MAYOR OF ELTON HAS DIED FROM SURGICAL COMPLICATIONS, ACCORDING TO HER FAMILY.  SEVENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD AVELLA ACKLESS TOOK OVER THE ROLE OF MAYOR IN FEBRUARY WHEN ROGER LAUGHLIN STEPPED DOWN.  ACKLESS HAD BEEN A TOWN CLERK AND WATER CLERK FOR THIRTY-FIVE YEARS AND HAD BEEN A MEMBER OF THE TOWN COUNCIL.  FUNERAL SERVICES ARE PENDING.

 

Potential GOP gubernatorial candidates have indicated that they are awaiting U.S. Sen. John Kennedy’s decision on whether he will enter next year’s gubernatorial race, as they mull over their own possible bids. Most recently, Louisiana State Treasurer John Schroder said Thursday that his decision to run for the state’s highest position is dependent on Kennedy. In mid-November, Kennedy said he was “giving serious consideration” to a gubernatorial bid and would make an announcement soon. The only person to launch a bid thus far is Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry.

 

ACADIANA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IN NEW IBERIA IS CLOSED TODAY BECAUSE OF A PLUMBING ISSUE.  REPAIRS ARE EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED TODAY AND THE NOTICE WILL BE UPDATED ACCORDINGLY.  A CHRISTMAS MUSICAL PUT ON BY THE SCHOOL WILL TAKE PLACE AS PLANNED.  IT’S SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT AND TOMORROW NIGHT AT OUR SAVIOR’S CHURCH IN NEW IBERIA.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A MOTORCYCLIST WAS KILLED IN A CRASH ON THE I-TEN FRONTAGE ROAD IN LAFAYETTE PARISH AT AROUND SEVEN A-M YESTERDAY.  SERGEANT ROBIN GREEN SAYS THIRTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD JEREMIAH GUILBEAU OF CARENCRO TRIED TO PASS A VEHICLE IN A NO-PASSING ZONE AND STRUCK THE FRONT PANEL OF A VEHICLE THAT WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT.  GUILBEAU WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.  GREEN SAYS INTOXICATION AND IMPAIRMENT ARE NOT SUSPECTED AS FACTORS IN THE CRASH.

 

A FORTY-SEVEN ACRE TRACT OF LAND ON CORBINA STREET IN LAKE CHARLES HAS BEEN PURCHASED TO BE THE NEW HOME OF SAINT LOUIS CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL.  THE DOWNTOWN CAMPUS, WHICH IS FIFTEEN-AND-A-HALF ACRES, WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGED BY HURRICANE LAURA TWO YEARS AGO.  THE RECTOR OF THE SCHOOL, REVEREND NATHAN LONG, SAYS THIS PURCHASE MEANS THE FUTURE OF THE SCHOOL IS WIDE OPEN AND NOW THEY WILL BE ABLE TO ADD STRUCTURES THE MOMENT FUNDING IS AVAILABLE.  A GROUND BLESSING AND COMMUNITY CELEBRATION WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE NEW YEAR.

 

ONE OF THREE MEN WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH A RETALIATION SHOOTING IN RAYNE ON SEPTEMBER ELEVENTH HAS TURNED HIMSELF IN.  DEANTE CARRIER WAS BOOKED BY POLICE ON A CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED FIRST-DEGREE MURDER.  TWO JUVENILES WERE SHOT ON CRANDALL AVENUE AND WERE TREATED AND RELEASED AT AREA HOSPTALS.  POLICE ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR THE TWO OTHER SUSPECTS, TWENTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD DARIUS SENEGAL OF RAYNEAND TWENTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD CHASTEN BLAKE CARRIER OF CHURCH POINT.
