A LAFAYETTE MAN WAS SHOT AND KILLED YESTERDAY AT AROUND NOON AT THE GREYSTONE APARTMENTS ON RESERVE DRIVE. POLICE HAVE IDENTIFIED THE VICTIM AS TWENTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD KERRINGTON SAM. POLICE HAVE MADE AN ARREST IN THE CASE. TWENTY-YEAR-OLD DILLION LOUVIERE OF LAFAYETTE WAS BOOKED INTO THE LAFAYETTE PARISH CORRECTIONAL CENTER ON A CHARGE OF SECOND-DEGREE MURDER.
TODAY IS THE THIRD AND FINAL DAY OF A SIT-DOWN BY NEW IBERIA MAYOR FREDDIE DECOURT IN FRONT OF CITY HALL TO HEAR FROM RESIDENTS ABOUT ROAD ISSUES. DECOURT SAYS, BASED ON THE OPINIONS HE GETS FROM RESIDENTS, HE MAY COME UP WITH A NEW IDEA THAT WILL APPEASE MORE THAN FIFTY PERCENT OF THE PEOPLE, SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE A PERMANENT OR SEMI-PERMANENT ROAD PROGRAM.

THE COMMISSION OF ACCREDITATION FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES HAS INFORMED THE SAINT MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE THEY HAVE BEEN AWARDED ACCREDITATION. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS NOW ONE OF FIVE AGENCIES IN THE STATE TO RECEIVE THE HONOR. SHERIFF BECKETT BREAUX SAYS HIS TEAM WORKED VERY HARD FOR IT AND CALLED IT A PROUD MOMENT. BREAUX SAYS HE HAD TALKED ABOUT BECOMING A WORLD CLASS SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND THESE ARE THE STEPS THEY ARE TAKING TO REACH THAT GOAL.
AN ALABAMA MAN WAS SENTENCED IN LAKE CHARLES YESTERDAY TO TWENTY YEARS IN PRISON, THE MAXIMUM PENALTY FOR OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. MORGAN DOUGLAS WAS ONE OF THREE MEN CHARGED WITH OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE FOR MOVING THE BODY OF LEXIE DOGA FROM CALCASIEU PARISH TO BEAUREGARD PARISH TWO YEARS AGO. PROSECUTORS SAY DOGA DIED OF A DRUG OVERDOSE WHILE WITH THE MEN AND, INSTEAD OF TRYING TO GET HER HELP, THEY DROVE HER BODY TO BEAUREGARD PARISH AND BURNED IT. BECAUSE IT WAS NOT A VIOLENT CRIME, DOUGLAS WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO GET OUT WITHIN FIVE YEARS.
A SAINT LANDRY PARISH GRAND JURY HAS INDICTED THREE MEN AND A TEENAGER IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEATH OF FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD BOY IN OPELOUSAS NOVEMBER SECOND. AT AROUND EIGHT THAT NIGHT, SHOTS WERE FIRED FROM A VEHICLE, STRIKING THE BOY IN THE HEAD. THOSE IN THE VEHICLE FLED THE SCENE BUT TURNED THEMSELVES IN SEVERAL DAYS LATER. DAYLAN WHEELER, CHRISTOPHER COLEMAN, DESMENT GREEN, ALL TWENTY-ONE-YEARS-OLD, AND SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD DAQUALON ROBINSON ALL FACE CHARGES OF SECOND-DEGREE MURDER.
