AN ELEVEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL HAS BEEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO A HOMOCIDE IN IBERIA PARISH.  ON NOVEMBER FOURTEENTH, THIRTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD KAMERAN BEDSOLE DIED OF GUNSHOT WOUNDS ON JASPER ROAD.  ON TUESDAY, THE LAFOURCHE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE, ACTING ON A WARRANT FROM THE IBERIA PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE, ARRESTED THE GIRL.  SHE WAS BOOKED INTO THE LAFAYETTE JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER ON A CHARGE OF FIRST-DEGREE MURDER.

 

MORE THAN A HUNDRED FIFTY SEWAGE CUSTOMERS OF MAGNOLIA WATER UTILITY OPERATING COMPANY ATTENDED A TOWN HALL MEETING AT COMEAUX HIGH SCHOOL TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THEIR RATES.  OVER THE LAST MONTH, THEY’VE SEEN THEIR RATES SOAR, SOME AS MUCH AS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.  THEY DEMANDED LOWER RATES AND BETTER SERVICE AT THE MEETING WHICH WAS ATTENDED BY COMPANY REPRESENTATIVES AND MEMBERS OF THE LOUISIANA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION.  COMPANY OFFICIALS SAY THE RATE HIKES WERE NEEDED TO RECOUP MORE THAN TWO MILLION DOLLARS SPENT ON IMPROVEMENTS ELSEWHERE IN THE STATE, ACCORDING TO THE ADVOCATE.

 

Louisiana Republican Gov.-elect Jeff Landry has announced steps that he says are aimed at fulfilling a promise to prioritize fighting crime in the state. On Wednesday, he named a new state police chief and other statewide safety and security leadership positions. Landry also said that once he’s inaugurated in January, he will bring “as much of a law enforcement presence” as necessary to keep New Orleans safe. In recent years, Louisiana has had one of the highest homicide rates in the country.

 

PEOPLE USING THE EASTBOUND SIDE OF THE I-TEN BRIDGE IN LAKE CHARLES ARE EXPERIENCING MAJOR DELAYS.  THAT’S BECAUSE OF ONGOING INSPECTIONS THAT HAS REQUIRED THE CLOSING OF ONE LANE.  CREWS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ARE USING TRUCKS THAT ALLOW THEM TO GO UNDERNEATH THE BRIDGE TO ASSESS THE STRUCTURE.  THE INSPECTIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETE BY THE END OF THE WEEK.

 

MAMOU POLICE HAVE ARRESTED THE MAN BELIEVED RESPONSIBLE FOR SHOOTING TWO PEOPLE ON TUESDAY AT AROUND FIVE P-M.  JAMIEN WILLIAMS WAS ARRESTED YESTERDAY.  A MALE AND FEMALE JUVENILE WERE SHOT AT THE CORNER OF NINTH AND CHESTNUT STREETS.  THEY WERE AIRLIFTED TO A HOSPITAL WHERE THEY ARE IN STABLE CONDITION.

 

THE SUSPECT IN A HOMOCIDE FRIDAY AT THE PLANTATION INN IN LAFAYETTE BARRICADED HIMSELF IN ANOTHER HOTEL’S ROOM WHEN POLICE ATTEMPTED TO ARREST HIM AND THEN SHOT AND KILLED HIMSELF.  POLICE BELIEVED THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD CLIFTON WASHINGTON OF LAFAYETTE SHOT THIRTY-NINE-YEAR-OLD NANCY HERRICK, WHO LATER DIED FROM HER INJURIES.  POLICE TRACKED WASHINGTON TO A HOTEL ROOM AT THE SUPER SEVEN ON THE EVANGELINE THRUWAY ON TUESDAY MORNING.  DETECTIVE KEN HANDY SAYS WASHINGTON AND HERRICK HAD DATED BUT WERE NO LONGER TOGETHER AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING.

 

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services has warned all those who receive food benefits or other government assistance electronically to immediately change their personal identification numbers after multiple skimming devices were found at retail locations statewide. The department said Wednesday in a news release that so far there are no reports of EBT cardholders’ benefits having been stolen. But cardholders are being urged to change their PIN as a precaution. Cardholders can call the EBT customer service line at 1-888-997-1117 or visit LifeInCheckEBT.com to input a new code.

 

CECILIA RESIDENTS ARE DEALING WITH A RASH OF VEHICLE BREAK-INS OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS.  THE THEIVES HAVE BEEN BREAKING INTO VEHICLES BETWEEN ONE AND THREE IN THE MORNING.  ONE RESIDENT TOLD KLFY TV THAT THERE’S NOT ENOUGH OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENCE PATROLLING THE AREA.  ANYONE WHO HAS INFORMATION ON THE BREAK-INS IS URGED TO CALL THE SAINT MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE.
