A FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD FRANKLIN TEEN HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY OPENING FIRE AT A HOME AND VEHICLE. DANIELLE JOHNSON REPORTS.

TAXABLE RETAIL SALES IN BROUSSARD ARE ON PACE TO SET A RECORD. SALES TOTALS THROUGH AUGUST ARE ABOVE FIVE HUNDRED MILLION, WHICH IS TWENTY PERCENT HIGHER THAN LAST YEAR, WHEN THE CITY FELL JUST SHORT OF A RECORD. SALES IN LAFAYETTE PARISH ARE ELEVEN PERCENT HIGHER THAN LAST YEAR, OUTPACING INFLATION. SOME OF THE SALE’S CATEGORIES DOING BEST INCLUDE RESTAURANTS, WHICH ARE TWENTY-TWO PERCENT HIGHER THAN LAST YEAR, AND SALES AT CAR REPAIR SHOPS ARE UP TWENTY-SIX PERCENT.
A SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER FOR WESTLAKE WAS LIFTED YESTERDAY. THE ORDER WAS PUT IN PLACE BECAUSE OF A FIRE SATURDAY AT THE SASOL LAKE CHARLES CHEMICAL COMPLEX’S ZIEGLER ALCOHOL UNIT. SASOL RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED QUICKLY AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THEY SAY AN INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE.

THERE WAS A SHOOTING FRIDAY AT A GAS STATION IN VILLE PLATTE. IT HAPPENED AT THE TEXACO STATION ON MAIN STREET. ONE PERSON HAS BEEN ARRESTED, BUT THEIR NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED. POLICE HAVE ALSO NOT GIVEN ANY INFORMATION ON THE SHOOTING.
THE LOUISIANA CRAFTS GUILD HAS BEEN RENTING THE SANS SOUCI BUILDING IN DOWTOWN LAFAYETTE. THAT MAY BE COMING TO AN END, ACCORDING TO PUBLIC RECORDS OBTAINED BY KATC THAT SHOW THE LAFAYETTE PUBLIC TRUST FINANCING AUTHORITY IS LOOKING TO SELL THE BUILDING BACK TO THE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY. REPAIRS TO THE BUILDING WOULD BE MADE BY A LOCAL CONTRACTOR ENGINEER WHO SPECIALIZES IN HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND THEN IT WOULD BE RENTED OUT, BUT NOT TO THE GUILD. ANDRE JUNEAU, PRESIDENT OF THE GUILD’S BOARD, SAYS THEY WERE SURPRISED TO LEARN THIS FALL THE LAFAYETTE PUBLIC TRUST FINANCING AUTHORITY WAS LOOKING TO SELL THE BUILDING.
A BODY WAS FOUND IN THE ELEVEN HUNDRED BLOCK OF FIRST AVENUE IN LAKE CHARLES YESTERDAY MORNING. IT IS BELIEVED THE PERSON WAS THE VICTIM OF A HIT-AND-RUN. LAKE CHARLES POLICE OFFICERS ARE LOOKING THROUGH AREA SECURITY VIDEOS TO SEE IF THEY CAN IDENTIFY A SUSPECT VEHICLE. THEY ASK ANYONE WHO HAS SECURITY VIDEO IN THAT AREA TO CONTACT THE LAKE CHARLES POLICE DEPARTMENT.
A LAFAYETTE MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH A SERIES OF RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES IN ACADIA PARISH. AUTHORITIES STOPPED A VEHICLE OF INTEREST IN THE LYONS POINT AREA, DRIVEN BY TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD DEION DEVON BEN, AND FOUND SEVERAL STOLEN ITEMS FROM RECENT BURGLARIES. HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE ACADIA PARISH JAIL ON THREE COUNTS OF BURGLARY, POSSESSION OF STOLEN ITEMS, AS WELL AS NARCOTICS CHARGES. SHERIFF K-P GIBSON SAYS THEY BELIEVE BEN AND POSSIBLY OTHER SUSPECTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR UP TO TEN BURGLARIES IN ACADIA PARISH.
