FIRE OFFICIALS HAVE DETERMINED THAT AN IMPROPERLY DISCARDED SMOLDERING CIGARETTE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A FIRE AT KING BUFFET ON BERTRAND DRIVE IN LAFAYETTE YESTERDAY. THE CIGARETTE IGNITED COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL IN A COLUMN, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FAÇADE AND SMOKE DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR. OFFICIALS FOUND THAT IT IS A COMMON PRACTICE FOR SOME CUSTOMERS TO DISCARD THEIR CIGARETTES AT THE EDGE OF THE COLUMNS BEFORE ENTERING THE RESTAURANT. KING BUFFET WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL REPAIRS ARE COMPLETED.

THE DEMONSTRATORS PROMISED MORE OF THESE EVENTS UNTIL THEY SEE THE CHANGES THEY DEMAND.
