A MOTHER’S LAWSUIT AGAINST THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM AND THE CITY OF YOUNGSVILLE IS IN FEDERAL COURT FOR A SECOND TIME. THIS TIME SHE SAYS THEY VIOLATED THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT. KANDICE DEQUEANT SAYS ON AUGUST SEVENTEENTH LAST YEAR, SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL WOULD NOT ALLOW A CARETAKER SHE HIRED TO PICK UP HER AUTISTIC SON AND HER SON WAS ILLEGALLY HELD ON A SCHOOL BUS IN EXTREME TEMPERATURES FOR AT LEAST THREE HOURS. THE CITY OF YOUNGSVILLE CLAIMS THAT THE RESTRAINTS AND/OR USE OF FORCE PLACED ON HER SON WAS PROPER AND APPROPRIATE FOR HIS SAFETY AND WELL-BEING.
LAKE CHARLES POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A SUSPECTED HIT-AND-RUN IN THE AREA OF GOODMAN ROAD AND OPELOUSAS STREET ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THE BODY OF SIXTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD LARRY BUSHNELL OF LAKE CHARLES WAS FOUND ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR PARTS WERE FOUND BY POLICE AT THE SCENE AND THEY BELIEVE THE PARTS BELONG TO A MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER THAT IS BETWEEN THE YEARS TWENTY-SIXTEEN AND TWENTY-NINETEEN. POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR AN OUTLANDER WITH DAMAGE TO THE FRONT AND SIDE.
The upcoming election for a new Louisiana Supreme Court justice may be decided before voters ever reach the polls. Two of the three candidates have been disqualified from the race under an opinion issued by the very court they are running for. The Louisiana Supreme Court said in a 5-2 ruling Tuesday that Marcus Hunter and Leslie Chambers failed to provide adequate proof that they filed their tax returns in a timely manner. The only remaining candidate on the ballot for the 10-year term is John Michael Guidry, chief judge of the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal.
CHURCH POINT POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR A GANG OF TEENS WANTED FOR VEHICLE BREAK-INS AND A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING. SOME OF THE CAR BREAK-INS HAPPENED ALONG COOLIDGE STREET IN CHURCH POINT. ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF K-P GIBSON SAYS THERE HAVE BEEN SEVENTY-TWO CAR BREAK-INS PARISH-WIDE MOST OF WHICH HAVE COME FROM SUSPECTS PULLING ON DOOR HANDLES. HE SAYS FOLKS CAN HELP THEMSELVES BY MAKING SURE THEIR VEHICLES ARE LOCKED AND THEIR VALUABLES ARE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE.
THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD MADE A DECISION LAST NIGHT THAT WILL ALLOW PHASE TWO OF CONSTRUCTION OF THE SOUTHSIDE HIGH STADIUM TO BEGIN SOONER THAN EXPECTED. THEY APPROVED PRE-FUNDING THE TWELVE MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT, ALLOWING WORK TO START EARLY NEXT YEAR. PHASE TWO INCLUDES BRINGING IN EXTRA PARKING AREAS, BATHROOMS, CONCESSION FACILITIES AND MORE. BOARD MEMBER JEREMY HIDALGO SAYS HE BELIEVES THE SOUTHSIDE HIGH FOOTBALL TEAM WILL PLAY HOME GAMES AT THE STADIUM BEGINNING WITH THE NEXT SEASON IN TWENTY-TWENTY-FIVE.
A NEW IBERIA MOTORCYCLIST WAS KILLED IN A SINGLE-VEHICLE CRASH ON I-TEN NEAR THE EGAN EXIT IN ACADIA PARISH. ACCORDING TO STATE POLICE, TERRANCE DELAHOUSSAYE WAS TRAVELING EAST ON I-TEN JUST BEFORE SIX A-M YESTERDAY WHEN HE LEFT THE ROAD AND STRUCK A GUARDRAIL. HE WAS EJECTED FROM HIS HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE AND DIED AT THE SCENE. STANDARD TOXICOLOGY SAMPLES WERE TAKEN AND SUBMITTED FOR ANALYSIS.
THE LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCED THAT THE BOAT LANDING AT BUTTE LAROSE WILL BE CLOSED BEGINNING TOMORROW. THAT IS DUE TO LOW WATER LEVELS AT LAKE HENDERSON BECAUSE OF A DRAWDOWN OF THE LAKE THAT BEGAN ON AUGUST FIFTH. THE DRAWDOWN OF THE LAKE WILL CONTINUE UNTIL NOVEMBER FIRST AT WHICH TIME THE LAKE WILL BE ALLOWED TO REFILL. DURING THE DRAWDOWN, BOATERS WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE LAKE AT PRIVATE RAMPS ALONG THE SOUTHERN LEVEE.
