A Lafayette Parish prosecutor has been arrested in a hit-and-run boating accident that injured three boys, who were being pulled on an inner tube on False River in Point Coupee Parish. The accident broke an 8-year-old’s pelvis and also injured an 11- and a 14-year-old. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says in a news release that agents arrested Chris Richard of Carencro on Monday. News agencies say he’s an assistant district attorney in Lafayette Parish.
ANOTHER FESTIVAL IN ACADIANA HAS BEEN CANCELLED BECAUSE OF THE RECENT RISE IN COVID-NINETEEN CASES. THE LATEST IS THE SHRIMP AND PETROLEUM FESTIVAL IN MORGAN CITY, WHICH WAS SCHEDULED FOR NEXT MONTH. THE FESTIVAL BOARD MADE THE DECISION YESTERDAY AFTER THEY SPOKE WITH THE LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, AS WELL AS LOCAL DOCTORS, THE REGIONAL HOSPITALS AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. THIS IS THE SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR THAT THE FESTIVAL HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

THE UNION PACIFIC BIG BOY NUMBER FOUR-ZERO-ONE-FOUR WILL BE STOPPING ON RYAN STREET IN LAKE CHARLES THIS THURSDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN-FIFTEEN AND THEN DEPARTS FOR KINDER AT NOON. IT WILL ARRIVE AT THE FOURTEENTH STREET CROSSING IN KINDER AT ONE-FIFTEEN AND STAY FOR A HALF HOUR BEFORE DEPARTING FOR OPELOUSAS, WHERE IT WILL STAY AT THE NORTH COURT STREET CROSSING FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES BEGINNING AT THREE-THIRTY. A UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD SPOKESMAN SAYS THIS IS THE BIGGEST STEAM LOCOMOTIVE EVER BUILT FOR UNION PACIFIC AND IT’S THE ONLY ONE IN OPERATION TODAY.
Gov. John Bel Edwards’ chief lawyer says the Democratic governor doesn’t currently have plans to enact broad coronavirus vaccine mandates across Louisiana despite low immunization rates and a surge in COVID-19 cases overwhelming hospitals. The comments from Edwards executive counsel Matthew Block came Monday at a House committee hearing where he and Louisiana’s chief public health officer Dr. Joe Kanter were heckled and criticized by people objecting to masks and vaccines.
Health officials have an unsteady partner as they try to get more people vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Bible Belt: churches and pastors. Some preachers are praying for more inoculations and hosting vaccination clinics. Others are skirting the topic of vaccines or openly preaching against them A survey by the National Association of Evangelicals found that 95% of evangelical leaders planned to get inoculated. But theologian Curtis Chang says that hasn’t translated into ministers widely advocating for vaccinations. He says the vast majority are on the sidelines afraid to speak out about a polarizing topic.

THE BLOOD DRIVE MOVES TO EUNICE CITY HALL TOMORROW AND THURSDAY. TOMORROW’S BLOOD DRIVE IS FROM NINE TO TWO AND IT’S SCHEDULED FROM ONE TO SIX THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
A MAN FROM RAYNE WAS SHOT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON BUT IS IN STABLE CONDITION. VICTOR SIAS SUFFERED A GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE LOWER PART OF HIS BODY AT AROUND TWO P-M IN THE SEVEN HUNDRED BLOCK OF REYNOLDS STREET. SHORTLY AFTER THE SHOOTING, RAYNE POLICE ARRESTED SIXTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD FREDERICK MILSON OF RAYNE. HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE ACADIA PARISH JAIL ON A CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED SECOND DEGREE MURDER.
