THE IBERIA PARISH CORONER’S OFFICE HAS IDENTIFIED THE VICTIMS OF A MOBILE HOME FIRE IN NEW IBERIA EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. THEY ARE FIFTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD ALLEN VIATOR AND FIFTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD JUDY VIATOR, BOTH OF NEW IBERIA. FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED TO THE MOBILE HOME FIRE ON FREETOWN ROAD SUNDAY MORNING JUST BEFORE FIVE-THIRTY AND FOUND THE BODIES INSIDE THE HOME. AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FIRE IS CONTINUING.
A WOMAN ACCUSED OF KIDNAPPING A LYFT DRIVER IS NOW IN JAIL. GEORGE FAUST REPORTS.

GOVERNOR JEFF LANDRY SIGNED A BILL REQUIRING TRANSGENDER PEOPLE TO USE PUBLIC FACILITIES THAT ALIGNS WITH THEIR BIOLOGICAL GENDER. THAT INCLUDES BATHROOMS, LOCKER ROOMS AND DORMS. THE BILL’S AUTHOR, REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE ROGER WILDER OF DENHAM SPRINGS, SAYS THEY MUST DEFEND THE DIGNITY, SAFETY AND WELFARE OF ALL WOMEN, CREATING SEPARATE PRIVACY SPACES FOR MALES AND FEMALES. GOVERNOR JEFF LANDRY ISSUED A STATEMENT SAYING HE WANTS WOMEN ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO KNOW THEIR PRIVACY, SAFETY AND OPPORTUNITIES ARE VALUED AND PROTECTED IN LOUISIANA.
A TRAIN CREW REACHED ITS MAXIMUM NUMBER OF HOURS, AS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW, AND STOPPED THE TRAIN IN KINDER, TRAPPING RESIDENTS IN A NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE THERE WAS NO OTHER WAY TO GET OUT. THE UNION PACIFIC TRAIN STOPPED AT THREE P-M AND DID NOT GET GOING AGAIN UNTIL NINE-THIRTY THAT NIGHT. UNION PACIFIC RELEASED A STATEMENT APOLOGIZING FOR THE DISRUPTION TO THE COMMUNITY AND SAYING THEY WOULD LOOK INTO WHAT HAPPENED. ALLEN PARISH SHERIFF DOUG HEBERT SAID THAT, FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO EMERGENCIES SUCH AS A HOUSE FIRE OR CRIME THAT HAPPENED WHILE THE TRAIN WAS BLOCKING THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
THERE WAS ONE VICTIM IN A SHOOTING YESTERDAY AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN VILLE PLATTE. A MAN IS RECOVERING AFTER BEING SHOT IN THE LEG. WITNESSES SAID THEY HEARD MULTIPLE GUNSHOTS AT THE GABRIEL VILLA APARTMENTS AT THE CORNER OF NORTH LATOUR STREET AND EAST LINCOLN ROAD. POLICE HAVE NOT SAID IF ANY ARRESTS HAVE BEEN MADE.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED FOR THE CO-FOUNDER OF ACADIAN AMBULANCE. SEVENTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD RICHARD ZUCHLAG DIED WEDNESDAY AFTER A BATTLE WITH CANCER. SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTED TWENTY-FOUR PALLETS OF FOOD AND ESSENTIALS TO STORM VICTIMS AT HENRY GUIDRY MEMORIAL PARK IN HENDERSON. MULTIPLE FAMILIES CAME AND LINED UP FOR HOURS TO GET THE FOOD. SECOND HARVEST IMPACT COORDINATOR LEMEL JONES SAYS THEY HAD ENOUGH FOOD TO SERVE OVER FIVE HUNDRED DIFFERENT VEHICLES. SMILE COMMUNITY ACTION AND LOVE ACADIANA SHOWED UP TO HELP SECOND HARVEST DISTRIBUTE THE FOOD.
SEVERAL PEOPLE IN ACADIANA NOTICED SMILEY FACES IN THE SKY YESTERDAY. THEY WERE CREATED BY PILOTS PROMOTING A SHOW ON SATURDAY. IT’S THE ROCKIN’ ON THE RUNWAY SHOW. IT TAKES PLACE AT THE RED OAK LANDING HANGAR IN SUNSET BEGINNING AT FOUR SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUING UNTIL TEN-THIRTY.
