Authorities say deputies in Louisiana shot and killed a man while trying to serve an arrest warrant.  Louisiana State Police Trooper Brooks David says St. Martin Parish sheriff’s deputies were serving the warrant late Monday at a home in Cade when they encountered a man armed with a gun.  David says state police investigators are trying to determine how many deputies fired shots at the man, who died at a local hospital. The Advocate reports that St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ginny Higgins referred all questions about the shooting to the state police.

Gov. John Bel Edwards’ choice to be the permanent leader of the Louisiana State Police is the same 27-year veteran of the department who was named interim superintendent in March.  The governor announced Tuesday he’s keeping Col. Kevin Reeves at the helm of the Department of Public Safety Services. Edwards says in a statement that Reeves has done “an exceptional job” and has won praise from his colleagues and other law enforcement officials.  When he became superintendent, Reeves inherited a state police agency under financial review.

INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL TRYING TO IDENTIFY HUMAN REMAINS THAT WERE FOUND OFF OF LAJAUNIE ROAD IN NORTHERN LAFAYETTE PARISH MONDAY.  THE REMAINS WERE FOUND BY CREWS SEARCHING FOR DAISY LYNN LANDRY, WHO HAS NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE LAST MONTH.  LAFAYETTE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE SPOKESMAN JOHN MOWELL SAYS THEY DO NOT BELIEVE THE REMAINS ARE OF LANDRY, WHO IS A SUSPECTED HOMOCIDE VICTIM.  HE SAYS ONE REASON IS THE REMAINS APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS FOR A LONGER TIME THAN LANDRY HAS BEEN MISSING.

THE TWO MEN WHO FOUND THE REMAINS SAY THEY WILL CONTINUE TO INDEPENDENTLY LOOK FOR DAISY LYNN LANDRY.  JEFF BIGALOW AND KYEL ROBINSON OF LAFAYETTE ARE FRIENDS OF LANDRY AND HER FAMILY.  BIGALOW TOLD KLFY TV THAT AS LONG AS THERE ARE PLACES TO SEARCH AND THEY HAVE THE ENERGY, THEY ARE COMMITTED TO “KEEP IT UP.”  THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND ACADIAN SEARCH AND RESCUE ARE CONTINUING TO INVESTIGATE LEADS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION, YOU ARE URGED TO CALL 232-TIPS.

House Republican leaders are making their initial offer for a $28 billion-plus Louisiana operating budget, calling it a good-faith effort to broker a compromise in the limited days of the special session.  The proposal was advanced Tuesday by the House Appropriations Committee, on a nearly party-line vote with Democrats opposed.  The plan would use $100 million less than is forecast to be available for spending in the financial year beginning July 1. That’s down from $206 million House GOP lawmakers originally sought to leave unspent.
