ABBEVILLE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AN INCIDENT AT A YOUTH BASEBALL GAME WEDNESDAY THAT CAUSED PANIC AMONG PARENTS AND CHILDREN. WITNESSES TOLD KLFY TV THAT A WOMAN THREATENED GUN VIOLENCE AND CALLED OTHER PEOPLE TO JOIN HER IN PHYSICALLY ASSAULTING OTHER PEOPLE AT THE GAME. WITNESSES SAID IT ALL STARTED WHEN A PARENT WAS OFFENDED BY SOMETHING ANOTHER PARENT SAID AND, AFTER THE THREAT, PARENTS WERE SEEN COVERING UP THEIR CHILDREN AND OTHERS HID IN THE DUGOUT AND IN THE WOODS. MAYOR ROSLYN WHITE RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING ANY ADULT WHO BEHAVES THIS WAY OVER A YOUTH BASEBALL GAME SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR INAPPROPRIATE AND DANGEROUS ACTIONS.

TWO TORNADOES TOUCHED DOWN LAST WEEK IN CALCASIEU PARISH AND THE MAYORS OF LAKE CHARLES, SULPHUR AND WESTLAKE SAID STATE AND FEDERAL HELP WOULD BE WELCOME FOR REPAIRS AND DEBRIS REMOVAL. THE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS DIRECTOR FOR CALCASIEU PARISH, JARED MAZE, SAYS A MONETARY THRESHOLD MUST BE MET TO BE INCLUDED IN THE STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARATION. HE SAYS ONLY FIFTEEN PEOPLE SUBMITTED REPORTS OF DAMAGE AT THE WEBSITE, DISASTER-L-A-DOT-GOV.
Louisiana lawmakers have approved a first-of-its-kind bill that would classify two abortion-inducing drugs as controlled and dangerous substances. The penalty for possession of the medications without a prescription is up to ten years in prison. Pregnant women would be exempt from prosecution. The legislation now heads to the desk of conservative Republican Gov. Jeff Landry, who has expressed support for it previously.

VILLE PLATTE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A FIGHT THAT HAPPENED AT THE HOSPITAL BEDSIDE OF AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD BOY. HOPE SEMIEN TELLS KLFY TV SHE WAS VISITING THE BOY, WHO IS THE SON OF HER FIANCE, WHEN THE BOY’S MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER ALLEGEDLY ATTACKED HER. SEMIEN DESCRIBED THE EVENT AS TRAUMATIC AND IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE EFFECTS ON THE BOY WHO WITNESSED IT. THE MOTHER, KEBREYA TEZENO, AND THE GRANDMOTHER, SHALONDA TEZENO, HAVE BEEN CITED FOR BATTERY BUT THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE FIGHT IS ONGOING.
A BILL BY STATE SENATOR GERALD BOUDREAUX TO ABOLISH THE NORTH LAFAYETTE REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY EARNED FINAL APPROVAL YESTERDAY. THE AUTHORITY PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED TO THE NORTH LAFAYETTE REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO THE LAFAYETTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY. THE NORTH LAFAYETTE AUTHORITY WAS NEVER ALLOTTED FUNDS AND DID NOT HAVE AN OFFICE OR STAFF. LEADERS IN NORTH LAFAYETTE PUSHED FOR THE AUTHORITY TO REMAIN IN PLACE AND BECOME ACTIVE.
NEW IBERIA POLICE ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR A SUSPECT IN A HOMOCIDE THAT HAPPENED ON MOTHER’S DAY. TWENTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD EDWARD KING JUNIOR IS WANTED FOR SECOND-DEGREE MURDER. TWENY-ONE-YEAR-OLD DAIQUAN BRANCH WAS SHOT AND KILLED AT A HOME ON JORDAN STREET IN FRONT OF HIS FOUR-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER. A SECOND SUSPECT, TWENTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD DEVIN PATTERSON, HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH ACCESSORY AFTER THE FACT TO SECOND-DEGREE MURDER AND IS IN THE IBERIA PARISH JAIL WITH HIS BOND SET AT THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND.
