THE BLUE DOG CAFÉ IN LAFAYETTE IS FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY UNDER A RESTRUCTURING PLAN.  THE RESTRUCTURING INCLUDES A NEW CHEF, RYAN TRAHAN, THE FORMER OWNER AND CHEF FOR THE DARK ROUX RESTAURANT, AND AN ENTIRELY NEW MENU.  JACQUE RODRIGUE, THE SON OF BLUE DOG ARTIST GEORGE RODRIGUE, SAYS HE’S EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW MENU WHICH INCLUDES MORE LOCAL AND FRESH INGREDIENTS, AND LESS FRIED AND SMOTHERED FOODS.  HE SAYS A FEW CUSTOMER FAVORITES WILL REMAIN ON THE MENU.

 

A Louisiana man accused of killing a pastor as he preached in his Lake Charles church has been found not guilty in the slaying.  KPLC-TV reports jurors began deliberating about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the case involving 58-year-old Woodrow Karey Jr. and reached a verdict about three hours later.  Karey admitted killing 51-year-old Pastor Ronald Harris, saying the man had raped his wife for years. He faced a manslaughter charge for twice shooting Harris at Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center during a revival service Sept. 27, 2013.

Louisiana senators have unanimously agreed to require the state’s public schools to display “In God We Trust” in their buildings.  Sen. Regina Barrow’s proposal also would require the schools to teach students about the motto.  The Baton Rouge Democrat said she sponsored the bill because she thinks “it’s really important that young people understand the patriotic history” of the country.  The proposal moves next to the House for consideration.

 

LAFAYETTE MAYOR PRESIDENT JOEL ROBIDEAUX WILL GIVE HIS ANNUAL ADDRESS THIS EVENING AT SIX AT THE HEYMANN PERFORMING ARTS CENTER.  HE’S EXPECTED TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON HIS CREATE INITIATIVE TO SUPPORT THE CULTURAL ECONOMY AND UNVEIL NEW INITIATIVES AIMED AT GOVERNMENT TRANSPARENCY AND EFFICIENCY.  THERE WILL BE A CULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE EVENT AFTER THE ADDRESS.  THE SHOWCASE AND ADDRESS ARE FREE TO THE PUBLIC.

 

A HOUSE IN STARKS CAUGHT ON FIRE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.  THE SOUTHSIDE OF THE HOUSE ON OLD RIVER ROAD WAS ON FIRE BY THE TIME FIREFIGHTERS FROM WARD FIVE ARRIVED, BUT WITHIN TWO MINUTES IT WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES.  THE HOUSE HAD NO ELECTRICITY.  THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.

 

THE ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS ASKING THE PUBLIC’S HELP TO SOLVE A COLD CASE HOMOCIDE THAT HAPPENED ON DECEMBER TENTH, 2016.  32-YEAR-OLD MICHAEL WINN WAS SHOT WHILE STANDING OUTSIDE HIS APARTMENT AT THE MEADOWS APARTMENTS IN CROWLEY AND LATER DIED AT THE HOSPITAL.  THERE WERE NO ARGUMENTS OR CONFRONTATIONS BEFORE THE SHOOTING INDICATING TO POLICE THAT HE WAS THE TARGET OF AN ASSAILANT.  CRIME STOPPERS OF ACADIA PARISH IS OFFERING UP TO A 25-HUNDRED DOLLAR REWARD FOR INFORMATION THAT LEADS TO AN ARREST AND THEIR TIPS LINE NUMBER IS 789-TIPS.

 

This year’s effort to end the death penalty in Louisiana is likely over after House lawmakers rejected a proposal to abolish the punishment.  The House criminal justice committee on Wednesday voted 10-8 against the bill .  Bill sponsor Rep. Terry Landry says the punishment is costly and barbaric. A similar bill passed a Senate committee Tuesday, but the vote in the House committee makes it unlikely that the Senate version will advance.

 

ACADIA PARISH POLICE JUROR AND FORMER CROWLEY CITY INSPECTOR CHARLES “DANNY” HEBERT PASSED AWAY YESTERDAY MORNING AT HIS HOME.  HE WAS 64.  FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ARE PENDING.
