TONIGHT THE LAFAYETTE CITY PARISH COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER ORDINANCES TO CORRECT ERRORS ON NEW DISTRICT BOUNDARIES. LAST DECEMBER, LAFAYETTE PARISH VOTERS APPROVED A NEW HOME RULE CHARTER THAT CREATES SEPARATE CITY AND PARISH COUNCILS, BUT THERE WERE DISCREPANCIES AND OMISSIONS IN THE NEW DISTRICTS. SOME PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY AND THE GOVERNMENT WANT A NEW ELECTION ON THE CORRECTED DISTRICT LINES. CITY PARISH ATTORNEY PAUL ESCOTT AND THREE OF HIS ASSISTANTS SAY THAT THE APPROPRIATE SOLUTION IS THE INTRODUCTION AND ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE TO CORRECT THE LINES.

Two Louisiana homeowners are suing President Donald Trump’s administration for policy change delays that have kept thousands of victims of a massive 2016 flood from receiving federal aid. The federal lawsuit was filed Monday by Jeffry and Amanda Meyer, who owned a Livingston Parish home destroyed in the flood that devastated the Baton Rouge region. The Meyers took out a disaster loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration. They are among thousands of homeowners unable to access a federally financed disaster grant program created later because that was deemed a duplication of federal benefits.

BOUDREAUX LIVED NEARBY AT THE COUNTRY PINE MOBILE HOME ESTATES WITH HIS MOTHER AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS. HIS MOTHER, FELICIA BOUDREAUX, TELLS THE ADVOCATE THAT HER SON HAD SOME RUN-INS WITH THE LAW BUT WAS WORKING TO BUILD A STABLE, GOOD LIFE FOR HIS FAMILY AND HIMSELF.
ON SUNDAY, JEFF DAVIS PARISH DEPUTIES ARRESTED TWO MEN WHO WERE STEALING SCRAP METAL FROM A PROPERTY OFF OF HIGHWAY 30-59 IN IOWA. AN OFF DUTY CALCASIEU PARISH DEPUTY SPOTTED THE MEN LOADING ITEMS INTO A TRUCK AND CALLED THE JEFF DAVIS PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE. ONE OF THE MEN TOLD THE DEPUTIES THAT THE OWNER HAD GIVEN THEM PERMISSION, BUT WHEN THE OWNER WAS CONTACTED, HE SAID THAT IT WASN’T TRUE. 28-YEAR-OLD ELBY GUILLORY OF LAKE CHARLES AND 32-YEAR-OLD SANTANNA RANELLE DURGAN OF MAMOU WERE ARRESTED ON THEFT CHARGES.
A HELICOPTER BASED OUT OF NEW IBERIA CRASHED IN THE GULF ON SUNDAY. THE BODY OF A PASSENGER WAS RECOVERED BUT THE PILOT HAS NOT BEEN FOUND. THE COMPANY WHICH OWNED THE HELICOPTER, THE BRISTOW GROUP, IS NOT RELEASING THE NAMES OF THE PASSENGER AND PILOT AT THIS TIME OUT OF RESPECT FOR THEIR FAMILIES. THE CRASH OCCURRED AT AROUND NOON SUNDAY OFF THE COAST OF LAFOURCHE PARISH.
A METEOROLOGY PROFESSOR FROM NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY SAYS THE TORNADO ALLEY IS SHIFTING EAST TO INCLUDE LOUISIANA. THE TRADITIONAL TORNADO ALLEY IS TEXAS, OKLAHOMA AND KANSAS BUT THE PROFESSOR, VICTOR GENSINI, SAYS THE REPORTS OF TORNADOES THERE ARE TRENDING DOWNWARD. HE SAYS THE TREND IS UP IN LOUISIANA, ALABAMA, ARKANSAS, MISSISSIPPI AND PORTIONS OF THE MIDWEST.
