A FORMER U-S MARINE FROM OPELOUSAS, THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD HARRISON BORDENAVE, WAS SHOT AND KILLED AT ANYTIME FITNESS.  POLICE HAVE ARRESTED THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD JASON LADAY, ALSO OF OPELOUSAS, AND CHARGED HIM WITH SECOND-DEGREE MURDER AND POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON.  POLICE SAY THE TWO HAD MULTIPLE DISAGREEMENTS OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS WHICH LED TO YESTERDAY MORNING’S SHOOTING.  THE TWO GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT AT THE GYM AND WENT OUTSIDE WHERE THE SHOOTING HAPPENED.

GOVERNOR JOHN BEL EDWARDS IS PUSHING LEGISLATION THAT WOULD RAISE THE MINIMUM WAGE IN LOUISIANA.  BILLS ARE EXPECTED TO BE FILED IN THE UPCOMING LEGISLATIVE SESSION THAT WOULD MOVE THE MINIMUM WAGE ABOVE THE FEDERAL LEVEL OF SEVEN DOLLARS, TWENTY-FIVE CENTS AN HOUR.  IN A FACEBOOK POST, EDWARDS SAID THE MINIMUM WAGE HAS REMAINED THE SAME SINCE HE TOOK OFFICE IN TWENTY-SIXTEEN.  HE CALLED IT UNACCEPTABLE THEN AND DOWNRIGHT IMMORAL NOW AS PEOPLE DEAL WITH INFLATION.

 

A SULPHUR MAN WAS KILLED WHEN HE WAS RIDING HIS MOTORCYCLE IN MOSS BLUFF MONDAY EVENING.  AN INVESTIGATION BY THE CALCASIEU PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE DETERMINED THE DRIVER OF AN S-U-V, TRAVELING EAST ON DUNN FERRY ROAD, MADE A LEFT-HAND TURN AND INTO THE PATH OF THE MOTORCYCLIST, THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD JOHNATHON A. WALLACE.   HE WAS THROWN FROM HIS MOTORCYCLE AND WAS LATER PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE HOSPITAL.  SPEED BY THE MOTORCYCLIST IS BELIEVED TO BE A FACTOR IN THE CRASH.

 

LOUISIANA LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR BILLY NUNGESSER WAS IN BREAUX BRIDGE YESTERDAY TO PARDON A CRAWFISH.  IT IS THE ANNUAL PARDONING OF THE CRAWFISH EVENT, HELD ON THE FIRST TUESDAY AFTER MARDI GRAS, WHICH NUNGESSER BEGAN IN TWENTY-SEVENTEEN.  HE SAID IT WAS FITTING TO PARDON A CRAWFISH IN BREAUX BRIDGE, THE CRAWFISH CAPITOL OF THE WORLD.  NUNGESSER SAYS IT IS IMPORTANT TO HONOR THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO MAKE A LIVING IN THE INDUSTRY THAT SUPPORTS TOURISM, THE CULTURE AND THE ECONOMY.

 

 

THE LAFAYETTE CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT HAS ANNOUNCED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE OWNER OF ROCK ‘N BOWL TO BUILD WHAT WILL BECOME THE LARGEST RESIDENTIAL PROJECT IN DOWNTOWN LAFAYETTE.  THE PROJECT, TO BE BUILT AT THE CORNER OF LEE AVENUE AND CONVENT STREET, WILL INCLUDE TWO HUNDRED-EIGHT APARTMENTS.  THE LAFAYETTE CITY COURT AND CITY MARSHAL’S OFFICE WILL RELOCATE THERE AND A CITY-OWNED PARKING GARAGE WILL BE IN THE CENTER OF THE DEVELOPMENT.  AN L-C-G SPOKESMAN SAYS THEY WILL WORK ON A DEAL TO DETERMINE IF ROCK ‘N’ BOWL OWNER JOHNNY BLANCHER WILL PURCHASE THE LAND FROM THE CITY OR LEASE IT.
