THERE WAS A POSSIBLE CYBERATTACK OF THE VERMILLION PARISH SCHOOL’S COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM NETWORKS AND INTERNET WERE TAKEN OFFLINE SO AN EXPERT TEAM FROM BATON ROUGE COULD INVESTIGATE A POTENTIAL COMPROMISE OF THE SYSTEM, ACCORDING TO A FACEBOOK MESSAGE FROM ABBEVILLE HIGH. ACCORDING TO THE POST, THEY BELIEVE THEY CAUGHT THE ATTACK EARLY, BUT THEY WANT TO BE PROACTIVE MOVING FORWARD TO PREVENT FURTHER COMPROMISE. NO PROJECTED TIMELINE WAS GIVEN FOR WHEN THE SCHOOL COMPUTER SYSTEM WILL BE RESTORED.
THE LAFAYETTE CITY COUNCIL VOTED AGAINST PAYING A TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR BILL SUBMITTED TO THEM BY THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE. THE TWO PREVIOUSLY ARRESTED WERE TWENTY-YEAR-OLD TRAVEAN COBB AND KYLAN LEBLANC, BOTH OF LAFAYETTE. BABINO WAS THE MAN WHO HAD ACCUSED A SCOTT POLICE OFFICER OF USING AN ILLEGAL CHOKEHOLD ON HIM AT THE SCOTT BOUDIN FESTIVAL IN APRIL.
