OPELOUSAS POLICE CHIEF GRAIG LEBLANC HAS BEEN INDICTED ON CHARGES OF OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE AND MALFEASANCE IN OFFICE.  THE CHARGES STEM FROM AN INCIDENT LAST DECEMBER WHEN LEBLANC AND HIS WIFE CRYSTAL WERE SHOT BY FORMER DEPUTY SAVANNAH BUTLER.  LEBLANC LATER ADMITTED THAT THE SHOOTING WAS THE RESULT OF INFIDELITY ON HIS PART WITH BUTLER.  BUTLER FACES TEHE SAME CHARGES AS WELL AS ATTEMPTED MANSLAUGHTER, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A FIREARM AND AGGRAVATED BATTERY.

 

THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS SEARCHING FOR AN ALLEGED DRUG DEALER.  DEPUTIES SEIZED ONE POUND OF FENTANYL AND TWO POUNDS OF METH YESTERDAY AFTERNOON IN THE TWO HUNDRED BLOCK OF BRIDGEWAY DRIVE.  THEY ALSO SEIZED MORE THAN TWENTY-FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS.  THIRTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD JEVON LIVELY IS WANTED ON SEVERAL CHARGES INCLUDING POSSESSION WITH THE INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE FENTANYL AND POSSESSION WITH THE INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE METH.

 

GOVERNOR JEFF LANDRY AND ATTORNEY GENERAL LIZ MURRILL HAVE SUED THE U-S SECRETARY OF HOMELAND SECURITY OVER A CHINESE WOMAN WHO CAME INTO THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY.  THEY SAY THE WOMAN HAS A RARE, AGGRESSIVE AND DRUG-RESISTANT FORM OF TUBERCULOSIS WHICH CARRIES HIGH MORTALITY RATES.  THE LAWSUIT SAYS THE WOMAN CAME INTO CONTACT WITH MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED DETAINEES AND AN UNKNOWN NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES AT FACILITIES IN LAFAYETTE, BASILE AND MONROE.  LOUISIANA SURGEON GENERAL RALPH ABRAHAM HAS ORDERED THE WOMAN BE ISOLATED AND NO DETAINEES FROM THOSE FACILITIES BE RELEASED UNTIL THEY HAVE BEEN MEDICALLY CLEARED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.

 

THE ONLINE PUBLICATION, THE ILLUMINATOR, HAS FILED A PUBLIC RECORDS LAWSUIT AGAINST LAKE CHARLES MAYOR NIC HUNTER.  THEY SENT A PUBLIC REQUEST TO THE CITY OF LAKE CHARLES FOR ALL EMAILS TO AND FROM MAYOR HUNTER OVER A PERIOD OF TIME IN APRIL.  THE CITY REFUSED TO RELEASE TWO HUNDRED NINETY-EIGHT PAGES THAT THEY SAY WERE NOT SUBJECT TO PUBLIC RECORDS LAW BECAUSE THEY FELL UNDER ATTORNEY CLIENT PRIVILEGE.  THE TULANE FIRST AMENDMENT LAW CLINIC, WHICH FILED THE SUIT FOR THE ILLUMINATOR, ASKED THE CITY TO TURN OVER THOSE EMAILS OR PROVIDE A MORE DETAILED REASON AS TO WHEY THEY ARE EXEMPT.

 

THE IBERIA PARISH SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS CONFIRMED THAT SEVERAL STUDENTS AT IBERIA MIDDLE SCHOOL UNKNOWINGLY CONSUMED CANDY LACED WITH T-H-C ON MONDAY MORNING.  QUANDISHA MICHAEL, THE MOTHER OF ONE OF THE STUDENTS, A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL, TELLS KLFY TV THAT A STUDENT PASSED OUT THE CANDY WITHOUT TELLING THE OTHER STUDENTS WHAT WAS IN IT.  SHE SAYS HER DAUGHTER AND SEVERAL OTHER STUDENTS BEGAN HALUCINATING.  THE IBERIA PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING THE INCIDENT.

 

A FOURTH SUSPECT HAS BEEN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO THE MURDER OF TWENTY-YEAR-OLD O’SHAY BREAUX OF CARENCRO.  GEORGE FAUST REPORTS.

MORE THAN FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY-EIGHT THOUSAND LOUISIANA REGISTERED VOTERS HAVE CAST A BALLOT IN THE EARLY VOTING FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AS OF TUESDAY.  THAT’S FOURTEEN AND A HALF PERCENT OF THE STATE’S THREE-POINT-ZERO-ONE MILLION VOTERS.  MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND REPULICANS HAVE VOTED, WHICH IS THIRTY-SIX THOUSAND MORE THAN THE NUMBER OF DEMOCRATS WHO VOTED.  EARLY VOTING CONTINUES DAILY THROUGH TUESDAY, EXCEPT FOR SUNDAY.

 

A NEW PROJECT AT THE SAINT MARTIN PARISH CORRECTIONAL CENTER IS ENABLING INMATES TO WATCH LIVE-STREAMED CHURCH SERVICES ON TV’S IN THEIR DORMS.  THE PROJECT WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY A DONATION FROM PASTOR JACOB ARANZA OF OUR SAVIOR’S CHURCH.  THE LIVE STREAM GOES TO THE EIGHT DORMS IN THE JAIL, REACHING ALL ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-SIX INMATES.  SHERIFF BECKET BREAUX SAYS THE PROJECT IS ONE MORE EXAMPLE OF WHAT THEY DO TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY TOOLS TO PREPARE INMATES FOR A SUCCESSFUL FUTURE IN SOCIETY.
