BISHOP J. DOUGLAS DESHOTEL OF THE DIOCESE OF LAFAYETTE HAS ISSUED A STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO A COMMENT MADE BY POPE FRANCIS IN A DOCUMENTARY, WHERE HE APPEARS TO ENDORSE HOMOSEXUAL CIVIL UNIONS. DESHOTEL SAYS THE COMMENTS IN A MOVIE ARE NOT CONSIDERED “ OFFICIAL MAGISTERIAL TEACHING.” HE SAYS THE COMMENTS BY POPE FRANCIS “DOES NOT CHANGE ANY DOCTRINES OF THE CHURCH WHICH ARE DRAWN FROM SACRED SCRIPTURE AND SACRED TRADITION.” DESHOTEL SAYS ANY SEXUAL ACTIVITY OUTSIDE THE MARRIAGE OF ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN IS “GRAVELY IMMORAL.”
FIVE PEOPLE IN A VEHICLE LEAVING CROWLEY ON I-TEN LAST NIGHT WERE SHOT AND TWO ARE LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION. ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF K-P GIBSON SAYS THE VEHICLE HAD SIX PEOPLE IN IT, TWO ADULTS AND FOUR JUVENILES, AND WHEN THEY GOT TO AROUND MILE MARKER 84, SHOTS WERE FIRED FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VICTIM’S VEHICLE THEN ENTERED THE MEDIAN AND ENTERED THE WESTBOUND LANES OF I-TEN, BUT WAS NOT HIT BY ANY ONCOMING VEHICLES. GIBSON SAYS INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE THE SHOOTING WAS DELIBERATE AND NOT A ROAD RAGE OR RANDOM ACT.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA REPORTED ONE MORE DEATH, WHICH WAS IN ALLEN PARISH. ACADIANA HAD FORTY-ONE NEW CASES. THAT INCLUDES NINETEEN IN ST. LANDRY PARISH. THERE ARE THIRTY-THREE NEW CASES IN SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA, INCLUDING EIGHTEEN IN CALCASIEU PARISH.
