A FORMER U-L AND L-S-U WIDE RECEIVER IS WANTED ON CHARGES OF NEGLIGENT HOMOCIDE, FELONY HIT-AND-RUN AND RECKLESS OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE.  ACCORDING TO STATE POLICE, KYREN LACY WAS TRAVELING SOUTH ON L-A TWENTY NEAR CHACKBAY ON DECEMBER SEVENTEENTH, WHEN HE CROSSED THE CENTER LINE WHILE SPEEDING AND CAUSING A CRASH.  OFFICIALS SAY LACY FLED THE SCENE AND DID NOT REPORT THE INCIDENT TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.  THE CRASH CLAIMED THE LIFE OF SEVENTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD HERMAN HALL OF THIBODEAUX, WHO WAS A FORMER MARINE, AND TWO OTHERS WERE INJURED.

 

A NEW IBERIA MAN WAS KILLED SATURDAY NIGHT WHILE RIDING A BICYCLE ON L-A EIGHTY-EIGHT IN IBERIA PARISH.  THIRTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD TIMOTHY MATURIN JUNIOR, WHO WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET, WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY A FORD F-ONE-FIFTY.  MATURIN DIED AT THE SCENE.  STATE POLICE DETERMINED THE BIKE WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH REAR LIGHTS OR REFLECTORS AND THE DRIVER OF THE PICKUP PROVIDED A BREATH SAMPLE THAT SHOWED NO ALCOHOL WAS DETECTED.

 

STATE POLICE HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN TO INVESTIGATE A FRIDAY NIGHT SHOOTING INVOLVING A JEFF DAVIS PARISH SHERIFF’S DEPUTY.  THE SHOOTING HAPPENED AFTER NINE P-M NEAR THE L-A NINETY-NINE AND L-A ONE-OH-TWO INTERSECTION.  A DEPUTY WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH INJURIES THAT WERE NOT CONSIDERED LIFE-THREATENING.  ONE PERSON WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY.

 

A LAFAYETTE MOTHER’S FACEBOOK POST HAS GONE VIRAL WITH OVER SEVEN HUNDRED SHARES.  IKERRA WILSON SAID IN THE POST THAT HER SON AT EVANGELINE ELEMENTARY WAS WAITING TO BE PICKED UP WITHOUT HIS COAT IN THE COLD BECAUSE THE COAT HAD BEEN TAKEN BY SCHOOL OFFICIALS OVER A DRESS CODE VIOLATION.  WILSON SAYS HER SON HAD OUTGROWN HIS OTHER COATS AND WORE WHAT WAS AVAILABLE.  THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION APOLOGIZED TO WILSON AND WILL NOW KEEP CHILDREN IN THE CAFETERIA WHILE AWAITING PICK-UP, TO AVOID EXPOSURE TO THE COLD.

 

AN ESTIMATED SIX MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT TO REVITALIZE THE FESTIVAL GROUNDS IN SAINT MARTINVILLE IS UNDERWAY.    MAYOR JASON WILLIS SAYS A MASTER PLAN IS BEING DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A PUBLIC SPACE THAT WOULD SUPPORT A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY EVENTS AND FESTIVALS.  HE SAYS THE PROJECT WILL BE DONE IN THREE PHASES WITH THE FIRST PHASE TO GET UNDERWAY SOON WITH A GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY IN THE COMING WEEKS.  THE CITY WAS AWARDED A FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR LOVE LOUISIANA GRANT WHICH WILL GO TOWARD RECONSTRUCTING THE GROUNDS.

 

JENNINGS POLICE CHIEF DANNY SEMMES SAYS A DRUG BUST FRIDAY NIGHT WAS THE LARGEST FENTANYL BUST IN THE CITY’S HISTORY.  OFFICERS EXECUTING A SEARCH WARRANT AT THE HOME OF SIXTY-YEAR-OLD RONALD MARTIN FOUND ELEVEN POUNDS OF DRUGS.  INVESTIGATORS WITH THE DEPARTMENT SAY MARTIN SUPPLIED DRUGS OVER A FIVE DAY PERIOD THAT LED TO NINE OVERDOSES AND ONE DEATH IN JENNINGS.  THEY SAY A LOT OF THE DRUGS WERE LACED WITH FENTANYL.

 

A YOUNGSVILLE MAN WAS ARRESTED THURSDAY BY STATE POLICE FOR CHARGES RELATED TO A FATAL CRASH NOVEMBER NINETEENTH IN ACADIA PARISH.  FORTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD BILLY KRITZER WAS FOUND TO HAVE HAD ILLEGAL NARCOTICS IN HIS SYSTEM AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH.  THE CRASH HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY NINETY NEAR EBENEZER ROAD, WHICH CLAIMED THE LIFE OF FIFTY-NINE-YEAR-OLD GILBERT PRICE JUNIOR OF RAYNE.  KRITZER WAS BOOKED INTO THE ACADIA PARISH JAIL ON CHARGES OF VEHICULAR HOMOCIDE AND RECKLESS OPERATION.

 

A CHURCH POINT WOMAN WAS ARRESTED FOR GRAVE DESECRATION IN CONNECTION TO AN INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED DECEMBER TENTH AT SERENITY MEMORIAL PARK IN OPELOUSAS.  A PERSON COMPLAINED TO SAINT LANDRY PARISH SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES THAT A GROUP OF GIRLS OPENED HER BROTHER’S CASKET AT THE CEMETARY.  SHERIFF BOBBY GUIDROZ SAYS AN INVESTIGATION LED TO THE POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION OF THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD QUINA CLAY AS THE INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBLE FOR OPENING THE CASKET.  CLAY HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH MISDEMEANOR GRAVE DESECRATION.
