Writing songs that give words to honest, humble, and faith-filled praise, is the heartbeat of Laura Story’s ministry. As a songwriter, worship leader, author, artist and speaker, Laura’s legacy continues to impact listeners and followers around the world. She is well-known for her Grammy, Billboard and Dove Award-winning songs including “Blessings” and Chris Tomlin’s “Indescribable.”
Her new song “Come Unto Jesus” embraces a modern-hymn style of worship with the intention to bring people to the heart of Jesus. Laura expressed excitement for the church to have this one, “because there seems to be this idea that we have to have it all together… But the standard of Jesus, the invitation of Jesus is to bring our weakness to him. It’s to bring our mess to him, our lack of togetherness to him, and really experience from him a deep soul rest that the world can’t offer.”
Singing hymns as a kid shaped Laura’s theology and faith from the truth-filled lines in each song. Laura’s story is a testament to the fact that following Jesus is not always easy, but it’s worth it. She says, “trying to be everything the world tells me I need to be, sometimes I forget that invitation that Jesus says in his, in his word, where it just says, come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
She currently has 6 GMA Dove awards. “Blessings” was certified gold in 2011 and inspired her first book, What If Your Blessings Come Through Raindrops. Laura’s music and writing show God’s love and grace intersecting with real life and serve as a reminder that despite questions or circumstances, He is the ultimate Author of our story, as told in her second book, When God Doesn’t Fix It. Since then, she has written her most recent book, So Long, Normal, that came out in 2021. Laura has a masters of Theological Studies and a doctorate in Worship Studies, and has served as a worship leader at Perimeter Church in Atlanta since 2005. Her greatest joy is being a wife to Martin and mother to Josie, Ben, Griffin, and Timothy.
