Authorities say a man has been charged with attempting to bring a loaded handgun and ammunition into the Lafayette Parish courthouse.  51-year-old Alan Huval was arrested and charged Tuesday with illegally carrying a firearm.  Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Maj. Jules Broussard says a deputy stopped Huval from entering the Lafayette Parish Courthouse when she saw a gun in his backpack through the x-ray scanner.  Broussard says Huval told the deputy he forgot the weapon was in his bag

 

The Beauregard Parish district attorney has cleared three police officers of criminal wrongdoing in the February shooting death of a 21-year-old.  The American Press reports Beauregard Parish District Attorney James Lestage declared in a Friday report that the actions of detectives Kristopher Pruett, Daniel Rick and Gene Clark were justified when they shot Gary Clark to death.  Police say Gary Clark pulled a gun and refused to drop it. Lestage wrote that video from body-worn and stun gun cameras showed Gary Clark placed officers in “imminent fear of death.”

 

TWO MEN ARE IN STABLE CONDITION AFTER BEING SHOT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON IN BREAUX BRIDGE.  DETECTIVE TAYLOR BOUTIN TELLS KLFY TV THAT SEVERAL SUBJECTS WERE INVOLVED IN A PHYSICAL ALTERCATION WHICH LED TO THE SHOOTING.  THE SHOOTING HAPPENED AT THE CORNER OF LANDRY AND WADE STREETS.  POLICE CHIEF ROLLIE CANTU SAYS THEY HAVE A POSSIBLE SUSPECT IN THE CASE.

 

A daughter of former four-term Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards says she expects her 92-year-old father to be released from the hospital as early as today.  Anna Edwards confirmed that her father was hospitalized Tuesday after becoming unresponsive. She says dehydration — possibly from food poisoning — is believed to have caused a drop in the former governor’s blood sugar. She says her father was in good spirits — talking, laughing and joking. But, he was to remain in the hospital overnight.

 

A 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL, WHO WAS SHOT INSIDE A HOME ON JUNE DRIVE IN LAFAYETTE SUNDAY NIGHT, DIED IN THE HOSPITAL YESTERDAY.  AN INVESTIGATION LED AUTHORITIES TO CONCLUDE THAT A 17-YEAR-OLD BOY ACCIDENTALLY DISCHARGED A WEAPON, STRIKING THE GIRL.  THE BOY HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH NEGLIGENT HOMOCIDE.  HE REMAINS IN CUSTODY AT THE LAFAYETTE JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER.

 

THE WELSH POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS A NEW K-9 OFFICER.  STORM IS A TWO-YEAR-OLD BELGIAN MALINOIS THAT HAS BEEN TRAINED IN DRUG DETECTION, HANDLER PROTECTION, TRACKING AND APPREHENSION.  THE DEPARTMENT’S

K-9 HANDLER WENT THROUGH A FIVE WEEK HANDLER CERTIFICATION COURSE HELD AT U-S K-9 UNLIMITED.  THE DEPARTMENT SAYS A K-9 OFFICER WILL HELP THE COMMUNITY OF WELSH TO COMBAT THE ONGOING DRUG EPIDEMIC.

 

The Town of Church Point is under a boil water advisory due to a main water line break.

Residents will experience low water pressure and are asked to boil their water until further notice.

Crews are working to make repairs to the line on Wednesday.

Water should be boiled for one minute before being consumed.
