THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS MADE AN ARREST IN CONNECTION WITH THE DISAPPEARANCE OF 18-YEAR-OLD JACQUELYN “DAISY LYNN” LANDRY.  21-YEAR-OLD MALIK DAVIS OF LAFAYETTE WAS CHARGED WITH ONE COUNT OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER.  HOWEVER, THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS NOT RELEASING ANY INFORMATION ON THE INVESTIGATION, AND HASN’T EVEN SAID IF LANDRY’S BODY HAS BEEN FOUND.  A FACEBOOK PAGE SET UP FOR FINDING DAISY LYNN INDICATES THEY ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR HER AND HAVE NOT GIVEN UP FINDING HER.

 

THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL HAS DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE THAT HEAVILY DAMAGED OAKDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WEDNESDAY.  JULIE DARCE REPORTS.

A CHURCH POINT MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR THE ARMED ROBBERY OF FARM WORKERS ON MAGGIE LANE.  THE ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE, IN A NEWS RELEASE, SAYS 20-YEAR-OLD ZACHARY DAIGLE ALLEGEDLY CUT OFF THE FARM WORKER’S VEHICLE AND CAME OUT WITH A HANDGUN, DEMANDING MONEY.  A PATROL DEPUTY LATER SPOTTED A VEHICLE BELONGING TO DAIGLE, WHICH MATCHED THE DESCRIPTION OF THE SUSPECT VEHICLE.  DAIGLE HAS BEEN BOOKED INTO THE ACADIA PARISH JAIL ON A CHARGE OF ARMED ROBBERY AND HIS BOND SET AT 100 THOUSAND DOLLARS.

 

Senators unveiled their $29 billion state operating budget proposal for next year, and it contains fewer cuts than the House wanted.  The proposal headed to the full Senate would keep the TOPS college tuition program at full financing, as the House proposed.  But the Senate version would spend more than the House sought on colleges, health services, state prisons, veterans programs and the child welfare agency.  The Senate Finance Committee backed the budget plan without objection Thursday.

 

Louisiana lawmakers want to toughen requirements for parental consent when a minor seeks an abortion.  Current law requires a notarized statement from a legal guardian of an unmarried girl under age 18 before a doctor can perform an abortion on the teenager. A proposal from Republican Sen. Beth Mizell of Franklinton would require the guardian also to provide proof of identity, including a government-issued identification card such as a driver’s license.  The House gave final passage to the measure with a 92-0 vote Thursday, sending it to the governor’s desk for consideration.

 

A WORKER, INJURED IN AN INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT IN BROUSSARD WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON, IS IN SERIOUS BUT STABLE CONDITION.  AN EMPLOYEE AT MCCOY GLOBAL GOT HIS ARM STUCK IN SOME MACHINERY.  POLICE CHIEF BRANNON DECOU SAYS IT TOOK SOME TIME FOR CREWS TO EXTRACT THE MAN FROM THE MACHINERY.  ALONG WITH FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS, DOCTORS AND SURGEONS WERE ON THE SCENE TO ASSIST IN THE ACCIDENT.

 

Louisiana authorities say a 27-year-old man is accused of negligent injury after shooting another man in the cheek while playing Russian roulette with a stolen handgun.  Lake Charles Deputy Police Chief Mark Kraus said the incident occurred late Tuesday in Lake Charles.  He says 27-year-old Romain Peter Boutte of Lake Charles was also arrested on charges of illegal use of a dangerous instrument and possessing a stolen firearm.  Kraus says Boutte was with the victim when police answered a report of a shooting about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday.

 

OPELOUSAS POLICE HAVE ARRESTED A PERSON IN CONNECTION WITH A SHOOTING THAT HAPPENED LAST MONTH.  COREY FRUGE OF OPELOUSAS HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED SECOND DEGREE MURDER.  HE IS ACCUSED OF SHOOTING ANOTHER PERSON TWICE, WOUNDING HIM IN THE WRIST, CHEST AND NECK AREAS.  DETECTIVE SERGEANT CRYSTAL LEBLANC SAYS THEY BELIEVE THE SHOOTING, ON MAY EIGHTH IN THE 600 BLOCK OF SOUTH UNION STREET, WAS A RESULT OF A DISAGREEMENT DURING A DICE GAME.
