HE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH THE MURDER OF 16-YEAR-OLD CHAZTON GUIDRY, WHO WAS SHOT TO DEATH ON MAY ELEVENTH OF LAST YEAR. CARTER’S BOND WAS SET AT 750 THOUSAND DOLLARS.

HOLLIER DRIVING ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD NEAR THE GROUP, WHICH INCLUDED CHILDREN. HOLLIER OWNS A CRAWFISH FARM NEXT TO THE DITCH, WHICH IS LOCATED NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF L-A 126 AND L-A 11-26. HOLLIER FACES A CHARGE OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND HAS POSTED HIS FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR BOND.
LSU Eunice has a new person in charge. LSU President F. King Alexander, in a news release Wednesday, announced the selection of Nancee Sorenson as the school’s next chancellor. She is expected to assume the post June 17. The board conducted a national search for the post after Kimberly Russell resigned to take a position at Texas Woman’s University in 2018.
Louisiana state senators have backed a $3.8 billion public school formula that includes all financing increases sought by Gov. John Bel Edwards. Support for the K-through-12 spending plan came in a 37-1 vote Wednesday. It puts the Senate at odds with House Republicans, who stalled the same proposal in their chamber.
The formula that won Senate passage includes $140 million in increases: a $1,000 teacher pay raise, a $500 raise for school support workers and $39 million in new block grant money for school districts.

Louisiana’s four-year high school graduation rate has surpassed 80% for the first time. And the graduation rate for African American students in the state has — for the first time — surpassed the national average. That news was met with applause during a Wednesday news conference by education officials on the steps of the state Capitol in Baton Rouge. Louisiana Education Department figures show an overall graduation rate for 2018 of 81.4%, up from 78.2% in 2017.
