NOT NEARLY AS MUCH AS YESTERDAY.  THE FIGURES WENT UP THIRTEEN PERCENT TO TEN THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED NINETY-SEVEN.  THERE WERE SIXTY NEW DEATHS REPORTED IN LOUISIANA.  THE TOTAL IS NOW THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY.

 

IN ACADIANA, THE NUMBER OF CASES INCREASED BY FIFTEEN PERCENT TO SIX HUNDRED FORTY SIX TOTAL.  THERE WERE THREE ADDITIONAL DEATHS, TWO MORE IN IBERIA PARISH AND ONE IN ST. LANDRY PARISH.  THE TOTAL NUMBER OF DEATHS IN ACADIANA IS TWELVE.

 

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA HAS TWENTY THREE NEW CASES OF THE CORONAVIRUS, AN INCREASE OF FIFTEEN PERCENT OVER YESTERDAY.  THERE ARE NO ADDITIONAL DEATHS.  NATIONALLY THERE ARE MORE THAN TWENTY THOUSAND NEW CASES TODAY FOR A TOTAL OF MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED SIXTY-FIVE THOUSAND.  OF THOSE, THERE ARE SIX THOUSAND, SEVEN HUNDRED SIXTY-EIGHT DEATHS AND NEARLY TWELVE THOUSAND HAVE RECOVERED.

 

HOSPITAL BEDS ARE FILLING UP IN ACADIANA, ACCORDING TO INFORMATION RELEASED BY THE LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.  EIGHTY-ONE PERCENT OF BEDS ARE OCCUPIED, LEAVING A TOTAL OF THIRTY-ONE AVAILABLE BEDS WHILE NEARLY HALF OF ALL VENTILATORS IN STOCK ARE BEING USED.  THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR FOR THE REGION, DOCTOR TINA STEFANSKI, SAYS IF THE GROWTH CONTINUES, ACADIANA’S HEALTH CARE SYSTEM WILL BE SEVERELY IMPACTED IN A FEW WEEKS.  SHE SAYS PEOPLE CAN HELP BY STAYING AT HOME, KEEPING SIX TO TEN FEET FROM OTHERS AND GOING TO THE GROCERY STORE ALONE.

 

ANOTHER INMATE AT THE FEDERAL PRISON IN OAKDALE HAS DIED FROM THE CORONAVIRUS.  JAMES WILSON, WHO HAD BEEN AN INMATE THERE SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 2015, WENT INTO RESPIRATORY FAILURE ON SUNDAY AND DIED WEDNESDAY AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL.  WILSON HAD A LONG TERM, PREEXISTING HEALTH CONDITION WHICH IS ONE OF THE RISK FACTORS FOR THE CORONAVIRUS.  THERE ARE NOW A TOTAL OF FOUR INMATES AT THE OAKDALE PRISON THAT HAVE DIED.

 

AUTHORITIES ARE INVESTIGATING A DEADLY SHOOTING THAT HAPPENED LATE LAST NIGHT IN VERMILLION PARISH.  GERALD GREUNIG REPORTS.

A CAMPER CAUGHT FIRE IN SCOTT LAST NIGHT.  THE CAMPER IS LOCATED ON ST. MARY STREET ACROSS FROM HUDDLE HOUSE.  THE FIRE WAS BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL BY THE SCOTT FIRE DEPARTMENT.  THE STREET WAS CLOSED FOR A TIME BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF EMERGENCY VEHICLES.

 

A MARINER ON AN EIGHTY-SIX FOOT FISHING VESSEL, WHICH WAS FIFTY-FIVE MILES OFF THE COAST OF LOUISIANA, WAS MEDEVACED BY THE COAST GUARD YESTERDAY MORNING.  THE CAPTAIN OF THE VESSEL REPORTED THAT ONE OF HIS CREWMEMBERS WAS SUFFERING FROM AN APPARENT HEART ATTACK.  THE DUTY FLIGHT SURGEON RECOMMENDED THE MEDEVAC.  HE WAS SUCCESSFULLY TAKEN TO LAKE CHARLES REGIONAL AIRPORT WHERE MEDICAL PERSONNEL WERE WAITING.

 

A BODY WAS FOUND YESTERDAY AFTERNOON ON L-A THREE-FIFTY-NINE IN ST. LANDRY PARISH NEAR WASHINGTON.  THE BODY OF THE MALE VICTIM, FOUND AT AROUND FOUR P-M, HAD APPARENT TRAUMA.  DEPUTIES ARE TRYING TO DETERMINE IF THE PERSON WAS A VICTIM OF A HIT-AND-RUN.  IF ANYONE WAS A WITNESS, THEY ARE ASKED TO CONTACT THE ST. LANDRY PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE.
