L-U-S FIBER WILL BE REIMBURSING ONE-POINT-7 MILLION DOLLARS TO THE LAFAYETTE UTILITY SYSTEM.  AN INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT FIBER WAS BROUGHT TO ABOUT 100 SEWER SYSTEM LIFT STATIONS BUT WERE NOT CONNECTED.  L-U-S FIBER THUS BILLED L-U-S FOR SIX YEARS FOR SERVICES THAT WERE NEVER USED.  YESTERDAY, THE LOUISIANA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION ORDERED AN AUDIT OF L-U-S FIBER AT THE REQUEST OF L-U-S DIRECTOR TERRY HUVAL.

 

THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT LAST NIGHT IN WESTLAKE INVOLVING A MOTORCYCLE AND CAR.  IT HAPPENED AT THE INTERSECTION OF HOUSTON RIVER ROAD AND GUILLORY STREET.  POLICE SAY THREE PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL.  NONE OF THE INJURIES WERE CONSIDERED LIFE THREATENING.

 

STATE AND ABBEVILLE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING AN OVERNIGHT MURDER THAT CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A 38-YEAR-OLD MAN.  JEFF HORCHAK REPORTS.

Louisiana House Republican leaders are trying to rally enough votes to pass a budget for next year that contains steep cuts to health services.  They face no help from Democrats and a veto threat from Gov. John Bel Edwards.  The magic number for Republican leaders is 53. That’s a majority of the 105-member House, the number of votes needed to get the $27 billion operating budget proposal over to the Senate.

 

ATMOS CUSTOMERS IN LAFAYETTE MAY EXPERIENCE SOME ISSUES THIS MORNING BECAUSE A GAS LINE WAS DAMAGED.  A THIRD PARTY DAMAGED THE LINE  NEAR KALISTE SALOOM AND NORTH MEYERS.  THE DAMAGE WAS ISOLATED AND LEAKS STOPPED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.  CREWS WILL WORK TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE TO THE LINE THIS MORNING, WHICH IS LOCATED 14 FEET UNDERGROUND.

 

Louisiana has a new higher education commissioner to oversee policy governing the state’s public colleges and more than 200,000 students.  The Board of Regents on Wednesday chose Kim Hunter Reed, executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, for the position.  Reed is returning to her home. She’s a native of Lake Charles and a longtime fixture in Louisiana government.

 

THE BODY OF A ST. MARTINVILLE MAN WAS RECOVERED IN AN IBERIA PARISH WATERWAY YESTERDAY.  THE FAMILY OF 56-YEAR-OLD WILLIAM LONDO JUNIOR CONTACTED AUTHORITIES WHEN HE FAILED TO RETURN HOME FROM FISHING EARLY TUESDAY.  HIS BODY WAS FOUND IN A BORROW PIT ABOUT TEN MILES NORTH OF CHARENTON NEAR LAKE FAUSSE POINT.  THE BODY HAS BEEN TURNED OVER TO THE IBERIA PARISH CORONER FOR AN OFFICIAL CAUSE OF DEATH.

 

Customers of Entergy Louisiana will see a series of rate reductions under an agreement with the state Public Service Commission.  The Advocate reports the plan was approved by the commission yesterday.  A company statement says the initial reduction will occur in May as a result of $210 million in federal tax reform-related savings. $105 million of that amount will be returned to customers over the next eight months, with the remainder returned to customers over the following four years.
