AUTHORITIES ARE SEARCHING FOR A MAN WHO RAN OVER TWO PEOPLE MONDAY AFTERNOON IN DUSON.  BRIANA HEBERT TELLS KLFY TV THAT HER EX-BOYFRIEND, TWENTY-NINE-YEAR-OLD MICHAEL GRANGER, RAN OVER HER PARENTS WHILE TRYING TO HIT HER.  SHE WAS CARRYING HER NINE-MONTH-OLD CHILD, WHICH IS GRANGER’S DAUGHTER, AT THE TIME.  GRANGER IS WANTED ON THREE COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED FIRST-DEGREE MURDER.

The Louisiana Legislature has voted to hold a rare “veto session.” Beginning Wednesday, lawmakers will consider whether to override Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards’ veto of a new congressional district map. Edwards recently vetoed the congressional plan that was passed during a February special session. Lawmakers plan to suspend the current 2022 regular session Wednesday to begin the veto session, which can last no more than five days.

 

Some Lake Charles residents are envisioning a new recreation loop as a way of helping the city recover from the devastation of multiple hurricanes in recent years. The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate reports that the idea would involved a series of bayous and canals connecting in a loop with paths alongside, providing new recreation opportunities for kayakers, bikers and walkers. City leaders also see the possibility that building it could better drain the flood-prone city. The Bayou Greenbelt is among the more ambitious projects among a list of proposals for improving the city and the region as it picks itself up from a string of natural disasters.

AN EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD NEW IBERIA WOMAN, WHO LOST HER EYE IN A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING ON MARCH EIGHTEENTH, WILL BE GETTING A PROSTHETIC EYE NEXT WEEK.  EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD DARIANA LINZER’S SEVEN-MONTH-OLD DAUGHTER WILL ALSO HAVE TO LIVE WITH SCARS FROM THAT NIGHT AFTER SHE WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD.  LINZER, WHO IS FIVE MONTHS PREGNANT WITH A SON, SAYS SHE LIVES IN FEAR BECAUSE THE SUSPECTS HAVE NOT YET BEEN CAUGHT.  NEW IBERIA POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR TWO MEN IN CONNECTION WITH THE SHOOTING, MACTORI JAQWAN DOUCET AND AMIRIT JOSEPH BENOIT.

 

A state supplement to the pay local police and fire personnel receive in Louisiana would go up by $100 a month under legislation approved by a state Senate committee. Monday’s unanimous vote by the Finance Committee sends the bill to the Senate floor for debate. Sen. Bodi White, a Baton Rouge area Republican, sponsored the bill. It would move monthly supplemental pay from $500 to $600.

 

A SAINT LANDRY PARISH SCHOOL BOARD COMMITTEE VOTED FOR GIVING EMPLOYEES A ONE-TIME THOUSAND DOLLAR STIPEND IN JUNE.  THEY ALSO VOTED TO DEDICATE TWENTY-TWO MILLION DOLLARS FOR IMPROVING SCHOOL FACILITIES THROUGHOUT THE PARISH.  THE MONEY IS COMING FROM FEDERAL FUNDS GIVEN TO THE PARISH LAST YEAR BECAUSE OF COVID-NINETEEN.  THE STIPEND AND FACILITY FUNDING WILL NOW BE CONSIDERED BY THE FULL BOARD IN APRIL.
