AN ARREST HAS BEEN MADE IN THE THEFT OF TWELVE SQUIRREL MONKEYS FROM ZOOSIANA ON JANUARY TWENTY-EIGHTH.  SIXTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD JOSEPH RANDELL OF OPELOUSAS WAS BOOKED INTO THE LAFAYETTE PARISH CORRECTIONAL CENTER ON BURGLARY CHARGES AS WELL AS TWELVE COUNTS OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.  NO MONKEYS WERE RECOVERED AND THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO THEIR WHEREABOUTS.  CHIEF VANCE OLIVIER WITH THE BROUSSARD POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS INVESTIGATORS DEVELOPED A LEAD ON A SUSPECT WHICH LED TO HIS ARREST AND THE EXECUTION OF A SEARCH WARRANT AT HIS RESIDENCE.

 

A SAINT MARTINVILLE MAN WAS RECOGNIZED FOR RUNNING INTO A BURNING MOBILE HOME AND RESCUING A MOTHER AND THREE CHILDREN BEFORE IT BECAME FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES.  CAMERON FRANCIS TOLD POLICE CHIEF RICKY MARTIN THAT HE NOTICED THE MOBILE HOME NEXT TO HIS ON FIRE AND “I JUST DID WHAT I HAD TO DO.”  THE SAINT MARTINVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT EXTENDED THEIR GRATITUDE TO FRANCIS ON A FACEBOOK POST.  CHIEF MARTIN SAID FRANCIS’ SELFLESS RESPONSE IS THE ACTIONS OF A TRUE LEADER AND AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE CARE ABOUT AND LOVE EACH OTHER.

U-S SENATOR BILL CASSIDY OF LOUISIANA HAS FILED A NEW VERSION OF THE REINVESTING IN SHORELINE ECONOMIES AND ECOSYSTEMS ACT.  THE BILL IF PASSED, WOULD TAKE MORE MONEY FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND GIVE IT TO STATES THAT HAVE OIL AND GAS PRODUCED FROM THEIR OFFSHORE WATERS.  ITS ESTIMATED STATE GENERAL FUND REVENUES WOULD INCREASE BY ABOUT TWENTY PERCENT ANNUALLY.  THE BILL CLEARED A SENATE COMMITTEE LAST YEAR BUT FAILED TO GET A FLOOR VOTE BECAUSE OF A BACKLOG OF LEGISLATION.

 

THE EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF IS MAKING A SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT ON THEIR MARDI GRAS POLICY.  EARLIER THIS WEEK, SHERIFF CHARLES GUILLORY REMINDED RESIDENTS THAT THREE-WHEELERS, FOUR-WHEELERS, GOLF CARTS AND SIDE-BY-SIDES ARE ILLEGAL IN THE PARISH.  HE SAID ANYONE CAUGHT DRIVING NON-STREET LEGAL VEHICLES ON THE ROADWAYS WOULD BE CITED AND THEIR VEHICLE WOULD BE TOWED.  HOWEVER, YESTERDAY HE ISSUED ONE EXCEPTION THAT CHILDREN WOULD BE ALLOWED ON A SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH AN ADULT DURING THE CHILDREN’S MARDI GRAS ONLY.
