The New Iberia city marshal is facing charges he falsified signatures on subpoenas. Louisiana State Police arrested New Iberia City Marshal Haywood “Tony” Migues yesterday on eight counts of forgery, injuring public records and malfeasance in office. He was processed into the Iberia Parish Jail. City marshals are charged with serving warrants and subpoenas for municipal courts, but authorities allege Migues faked the signatures of the people his office was legally required to personally serve with the documents.

Construction has begun on a $32 million project to bring back hundreds of acres of marsh to a part of southwest Louisiana that has been turned to open water by storms, sinking and other causes. The Cameron Meadows Marsh Creation and Terracing project is designed to build more than 308 acres of marsh northwest of Holly Beach. Another 11 acres of land will be terraced to slow down waves so sediment drops out rather than being washed away. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is paying 85% of the total under the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act.

Louisiana is widening access to the coronavirus vaccine to also include anyone aged 65 to 69. The plans announced Thursday by Gov. John Bel Edwards authorize another quarter-million people for the shots if they can find an available appointment. People 70 and older had been allowed to receive the two-dose vaccines. That will drop to 65 starting Monday and place Louisiana in line with more than half the nation’s other states, but because demand far outstrips supply, many eligible people are still struggling to get vaccine appointments.
