State police spokesman Master Trooper Brooks David says at least two sheriff’s deputies were at the home of Michael Noel about 5:50 p.m. Monday when the shooting occurred. David says investigators have told him one shot was fired. He says he doesn’t know why the deputies were at Noel’s home, south of Breaux Bridge. He says two deputies were treated for minor injuries. David says Noel was black but that he does not know the race of the deputies. David says state police were asked to investigate the shooting at 8:45 p.m. State police are called in by law enforcement agencies to investigate officer-involved shootings.

AP  State police say 17 suspects accused of being part of a neighborhood-based criminal gang in Abbeville have been indicted. Louisiana State Police Col. Mike Edmonson says charges include racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering and criminal street gang violation. The indictments were announced Monday and came after a year-long investigation by a special task force made up of several Acadiana law enforcement agencies. The gang members called themselves the Gremlins, according to the Advertiser. Seven of the suspects indicted were not in custody as of Monday. Edmonson says more charges, including murder, attempted murder, drug trafficking, armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm are expected to be applied. Prosecutors say penalties for racketeering could be up to 50 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
