A Calcasieu Parish police juror has died.  A news release from the police jury says James Mayo, 52, died Friday night, apparently in his sleep.  Mayo, a Democrat, represented parts of northeast Lake Charles and Moss Bluff on the 15-member body. He was first elected in 2011 and had served as vice president in 2013.

THE PARENTS OF STUDENTS AT TWO NEW CHARTER SCHOOLS IN LAFAYETTE PARISH HAVE INDICATED THEY ARE PLEASED WITH THE NEW SCHOOLS.  A SURVEY OF PARENTS AT ACADIANA RENAISSANCE CHARTER ACADEMY IN YOUNGSVILLE SHOWED THAT ALMOST ALL OF THEM WERE HAPPY IN NEARLY EVERY AREA, INCLUDING 98 PERCENT SAYING THEY WERE SATISFIED WITH THE CURRICULUM, PROFESSIONALISM AND CUSTOMER SERVICE.  THE TEACHERS AND STAFF AT ACADIANA RENAISSANCE ALSO GAVE HIGH MARKS, INCLUDING ONE HUNDRED PERCENT GIVING POSITIVE FEEDBACK ON THE WORK ENVIRONMENT.  THE PARENTS AND STAFF AT LAFAYETTE RENAISSANCE CHARTER ACADEMY IN UPPER LAFAYETTE ALSO WERE VERY POSITIVE ABOUT THE NEW SCHOOL, THOUGH THE RESULTS WERE SLIGHTLY BELOW THE SURVEY RESULTS AT ACADIANA RENAISSANCE.

A MAN WAS SHOT IN THE SHOULDER SATURDAY EVENING IN THE 900 BLOCK OF JACOBS AVENUE IN CROWLEY.  POLICE CHIEF K-P GIBSON SAYS THEY BELIEVE THE SHOOTING MAY HAVE BEEN OVER A DRUG DEAL.  HE SAYS THEY ARE SEARCHING FOR A SUSPECT AND INTERVIEWING PEOPLE WHO MAY HAVE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE SHOOTING.  THE MAN WHO WAS SHOT DID NOT SUFFER LIFE THREATENING INJURIES.

THREE PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION SUNDAY EVENING IN BEAUREGARD PARISH.  THE DRIVERS OF THE TWO VEHICLES WERE KILLED, 28-YEAR-OLD KRISTI B. POTEET AND 41-YEAR-OLD RICKY M. GILL OF SINGER, AND A PASSENGER IN POTEET’S VEHICLE WAS ALSO KILLED, THOUGH THE NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED YET.  THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED JUST AFTER SIX SUNDAY NIGHT, JUST NORTH OF SOUTH BEAUREGARD HIGH SCHOOL ON HIGHWAY 171.  STATE POLICE SUSPECT IMPAIRMENT COULD BE A FACTOR IN THE CRASH.

 

A LAFAYETTE FAMILY DOLLAR STORE WAS ROBBED EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.  JULIE DARCE REPORTS.

Authorities say a 29-year-old Bayou Vista woman has been booked with simple arson after she set her boyfriend’s clothes on fire in her home.  St. Mary Parish sheriff’s Lt. Sennet Wiggins says Robyn Blanc was booked Thursday with simple arson. Wiggins told The Daily Review Blanc did not make any admissions as to the motive for the fire.  Bayou Vista firefighter Josh Ashley says there were no injuries, but a dog was killed in the blaze.

State police say four people died in a head-on collision in Avoyelles Parish.  The early Friday crash happened on Louisiana Highway 107 south of Highway 453.  The crash involved a 1999 Chevrolet pickup and a 2013 Toyota Prius. The Chevrolet was southbound when the driver lost control and crossed the centerline.
