A UTILITY CLERK FOR THE CITY OF SCOTT WAS ARRESTED AFTER AN ANNUAL AUDIT FOR THE CITY REVEALED THAT 27-HUNDRED DOLLARS WAS MISSING.  AN INVESTIGATION BY THE SCOTT POLICE DEPARTMENT LED THEM TO MONTEZ PREJEAN, WHO, ACCORDING TO MAYOR PURVIS MORRISON, ADMITTED TO STEALING THE MONEY.  PREJEAN HAS WORKED FOR THE CITY OF SCOTT FOR 15 YEARS.  SHE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH THEFT AND MALFEASANCE IN OFFICE, AND HER BOND WAS SET AT FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS.

The fall elections have reshuffled seats in the Louisiana Legislature.  After the November and December elections, the Senate has one new member, the House has two new members and the House has another round of new vacancies.

Abbeville Republican Bob Hensgens won a special election to move from the House to the Senate.  Elected to the House in November was Stuart Moss, a Republican who will fill the rest of the term of Mike Danahay, a Democrat elected mayor of Sulphur.

 

A LAFAYETTE PARISH MAN HAS BEEN MISSING SINCE FRIDAY NIGHT.  31-YEAR-OLD CHRISTOPHER THIBODEAUX WAS LAST SEEN AT HIS RESIDENCE ON NORTH WILDERNESS TRAIL NORTH OF GLORIA SWITCH NEAR CARENCRO.  HIS SISTER, MELANIE HAYES, SAYS CHRIS’ WALLET, KEYS, AND PHONE ARE STILL AT THE HOUSE AND THERE IS NO SIGN OF A DISTURBANCE THERE.  THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS CALLED OFF SEARCHES BUT DETECTIVES ARE STILL FOLLOWING LEADS.

A female trainer at Opelousas high school has been arrested and charged with having illicit relations with a student.  Opelousas police told news outlets that 28-year-old Laura Lynn Huval of Crowley has been arrested and charged with felony prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student.  Huval had been working for a company in Lafayette that provides trainers to schools and had been assigned to Opelousas High School.  Opelousas Police Chief Donald Thompson said another employee of the company reported the conduct.

 

A World War II veteran is on a mission to travel to all 50 states as part of an effort to raise awareness about the dwindling number of veterans from that war who are still alive.  Sidney Walton, of San Diego, met Tuesday with Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards at the Commander’s Palace restaurant.  The 99-year-old Walton started his tour in March. Walton will turn 100 on Feb. 11 and plans to visit the White House that day.
