Myers says both men were working on electrical lines from a helicopter when apparently their safety harness rubbed against the lines, causing it to snap and they fell about 100 feet to the ground.

Louisiana education officials say performance scores for the state’s public schools have remained steady for the third year in a row — with 20 percent earning an “A” in the state grading system.  Twenty-seven percent of schools earned a “B” and another 27 percent a “C” in the latest breakdown; 18 percent got a “D” and 8 percent an “F.”  The state released scores and letter grades for individual schools and school districts on Tuesday. It also launched a new online reporting system to help families examine individual schools — the Louisiana School Finder .

THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM MAINTAINED A “B” RATING FROM THE STATE, BUT THEIR OVERALL SCORE DIPPED TWO-POINT-5 POINTS COMPARED TO LAST YEAR.  IN OTHER ACADIANA PARISHES, VERMILLION PARISH MAINTAINED AN “A” RATING, THE HIGHEST SCORE IN ACADIANA.  ST. LANDRY PARISH HAD THE LOWEST SCORE, WITH A “C” RATING.  THE REMAINING FIVE PARISHES HAD A “B” RATING THOUGH ACADIA, ST. MARTIN AND EVANGELINE PARISHES SAW THEIR OVERALL SCORE DROP COMPARED TO LAST YEAR.

IN SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA, JEFF DAVIS PARISH SAW A DRAMATIC INCREASE IN THEIR SCORE OF TEN POINTS, GOING FROM A “B” LETTER GRADE TO AN “A”.  CAMERON AND ALLEN PARISH BOTH ARE ALSO “A” RATED, THOUGH ALLEN PARISH’S SCORE DROPPED BY NEARLY TWO POINTS.  CALCASIEU PARISH’S SCORE DROPPED BY NEARLY TWO POINTS, WHICH MEANS THEY WENT FROM A “B” GRADE TO A “C”.  BEAUREGARD PARISH’S SCORE WENT UP SLIGHTLY, MAINTAINING A “B” GRADE.

Attorney General Jeff Landry is working to place prescription drug “take-back boxes” in every Louisiana parish, in an effort to fight opioid abuse.  The Advocate reports the latest box was installed Tuesday at the Baton Rouge Police Department headquarters.  The attorney general is working with Blue Cross Blue Shield and the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigations to place the boxes around Louisiana.  A full list of the boxes by location is available online .
