MAMOU POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR A SUSPECT IN A SHOOTING THAT HAPPENED AT AROUND FIVE P-M YESTERDAY.  THEY BELIEVE JAMIEN WILLIAMS SHOT TWO PEOPLE, A MALE AND FEMALE JUVENILE.  THE TWO VICTIMS WERE AIRLIFTED TO A HOSPITAL WHERE THEY ARE LISTED IN STABLE CONDITION.  THE SHOOTING HAPPENED AT THE CORNER OF NINTH AND CHESTNUT STREETS IN MAMOU.

 

AUDITORS FROM THE STATE LEGISLATIVE AUDITOR’S OFFICE ARE EXPECTED IN LAFAYETTE IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS TO INTERVIEW CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES.  IT’S PART OF AN INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED VIOLATIONS MAINLY RELATED TO PUBLIC BIDS, ACCORDING TO KLFY TV.  CITY COUNCIL MEMBER NANETTE COOK SAYS THEY STARTED THE INVESTIGATION, SPENDING ABOUT FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, BUT IT HAS NOW BEEN HANDED OVER TO THE STATE LEGISLATIVE AUDITOR.  SHE SAYS SHE EXPECTS THEM TO RELEASE A REPORT OF THEIR FINDINGS SOMETIME IN THE SPRING.

 

THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL’S OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING A HOUSE FIRE SATURDAY NIGHT ON HIGHWAY ONE NINETY IN ELTON, WHERE THE BODY OF MAN AND A DOG WERE FOUND IN THE LIVING ROOM AREA.  THE PARISH CORONER’S OFFICE IS WORKING TO IDENTIFY THE MAN AND TO DETERMINE AN OFFICIAL CAUSE OF DEATH.  IT’S BELIEVED THE MAN WAS THE SIXTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD HOMEOWNER.  DEPUTIES SAY THE FIRE BEGAN NEAR WHERE THE VICTIM WAS FOUND AND THEY’VE BEEN UNABLE TO RULE OUT POSSIBLE UNSAFE HEATING PRACTICES OR AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPROPER USE OF EXTENSION CORDS.

 

LOUISIANA CONGRESSMAN CLAY HIGGINS IS COMING TO THE DEFENSE OF A COLLEAGUE.  HE’S URGING HOUSE MEMBERS TO VOTE AGAINST THE EXPULSION OF NEW YORK CONGRESSMAN AND FELLOW REPUBLICAN GEORGE SANTOS, SAYING HE IS BEING PUBLICLY AND UNFAIRLY CRUCIFIED.  A HOUSE ETHICS COMMITTEE REPORT FOUND THAT SANTOS DECIEVED DONORS AND BLATANTLY STOLE CAMPAIGN DONATIONS TO PAY FOR LAVISH TRIPS AND DESIGNER CLOTHES.  THE HOUSE IS EXPECTED TO VOTE ON WHETHER TO REMOVE SANTOS FROM OFFICE SOMETIME THIS WEEK.

 

A FORMER BREAUX BRIDGE POLICE CHIEF HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY STEALING GUNS FROM THE EVIDENCE ROOM AT THE DEPARTMENT.  SAINT MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF BECKETT BREAUX SAYS DEPUTIES FOUND TWELVE FIREARMS FROM THE EVIDENCE ROOM IN THE HOME OF FORMER CHIEF ROLLIE CANTU.  A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION WAS LAUNCHED IN AUGUST AFTER AN AUDIT OF THE EVIDENCE ROOM FOUND SEVERAL ITEMS MISSING.  CANTU WAS BOOKED INTO THE SAINT MARTIN PARISH CORRECTIONAL CENTER ON CHARGES OF MALFEASANCE IN OFFICE AND THEFT OF A FIREARM.

 

 

 

 

LAFAYETTE POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR TWENTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD DONTRELL LARAY CLARK OF LAFAYETTE WHO IS WANTED FOR SECOND-DEGREE MURDER.  HE IS ACCUSED OF THE SHOOTING DEATH OF TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD NATHAN BOB ON OCTOBER TWENTY-NINTH IN THE FIVE HUNDRED BLOCK OF ORCHID DRIVE.  IT TURNS OUT CLARK IS ALSO WANTED IN ANOTHER HOMOCIDE CASE THAT HAPPENED IN OCTOBER OF TWENTY-EIGHTEEN WHEN CLARK WAS EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD.  THE VICTIM IN THAT CASE WAS TWENTY-NINE-YEAR-OLD ETHAN SMITH, WHO WAS FOUND SHOT OUTSIDE HIS RESIDENCE, LOCATED IN THE PECAN ACRES MOBILE HOME VILLAGE IN DUSON.

 

ONE PERSON WAS KILLED IN A THREE VEHICLE CRASH MONDAY AFTERNOON ON I-TEN IN CALCASIEU PARISH.  TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD GARRETT WAYNE SMITH OF SULPHUR WAS TRAVELING EAST IN A CHEVY SILVERADO WHEN HE VEERED OFF THE INTERSTATE AND HIT AN EIGHTEEN-WHEELER PARKED ON THE SHOULDER.  THE IMPACT SENT SMITH’S VEHICLE BACK ONTO THE INTERSTATE, WHERE HE WAS HIT BY ANOTHER EIGHTEEN-WHEELER. SMITH WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE WHILE THE OTHER TWO DRIVERS WERE UNINJURED.
