A MORGAN CITY MAN WAS APPREHENDED IN NEW ORLEANS FOR A SHOOTING THAT TOOK PLACE ON NOVEMBER 14TH.  47-YEAR-OLD CARLOS CESPEDES IS ACCUSED OF FORCING HIS WAY INTO HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND’S HOME IN MORGAN CITY, AND SHOOTING AT HER AND ANOTHER PERSON BEFORE FLEEING IN A STOLEN VEHICLE.  HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE ORLEANS PARISH JAIL ON TWO COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER AND OTHER CHARGES.  THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S FUGITIVE APPREHENSION UNIT MADE THE ARREST.

THE STORMY WEATHER OVER THE WEEKEND IN SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA PROMPTED A RARE WEATHER EVENT IN SOUTHERN CAMERON PARISH.  IN ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES TIME, A STORM SURGE BROUGHT WATER FROM THE GULF, COVERING THE AREA BETWEEN SABINE PASS AND RUTHERFORD BEACH, WITH A MAXIMUM DEPTH OF SIX FEET.  HIGHWAY 82 WAS SHUT DOWN FOR A WHILE BECAUSE OF THE FLOOD WATERS AND DEBRIS, AND SOME RESIDENTS SAW SOME DAMAGE TO THEIR PROPERTY.  ANDY PATRICK WITH THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LAKE CHARLES TOLD KPLC TV THAT INTENSE WINDS FROM THE STORMS PROBABLY CONTRIBUTED TO THIS WEATHER PHENOMENON, WHICH HE CALLS EXTREMELY RARE.

Gov. Bobby Jindal fired the head of his Office of Elderly Affairs in 2012 and never named another executive director. A new audit says that lack of leadership has lessened the effectiveness of the agency’s mission to help the elderly.  In a review released Monday, the Legislative Auditor’s Office says the agency’s funding formula that sends state and federal money to local councils on aging doesn’t determine where needs are greatest.  The Jindal administration defended its formula, saying it was approved by federal officials, but says it will work more closely with parish councils on aging to monitor spending.

THE U-L RAGIN CAJUNS TICKET OFFICE BEGAN SELLING TICKETS TO THE NEW ORLEANS BOWL YESTERDAY.  NO OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT CAN BE MADE UNTIL DECEMBER SEVENTH, BUT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR SCOTT FARMER SAYS THEY HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH NEW ORLEANS BOWL OFFICIALS AND THEY WILL VERY LIKELY BE MAKING THEIR FOURTH STRAIGHT TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS.  THE RAGIN CAJUN’S HAVE WON THE PAST THREE NEW ORLEANS BOWLS,  AND, IF THEY WIN THIS YEAR, IT WOULD BE THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY THAT ANY N-C-A-A FOOTBALL TEAM HAS WON FOUR STRAIGHT AT THE SAME BOWL.  THE BOWL GAME TAKES PLACE SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20TH, AT TEN A-M.

A PENNSYLVANIA MAN PLED GUILTY TO ATTEMPTING TO ENTICE A LAKE CHARLES GIRL OVER THE INTERNET.  TIMOTHY KELLY FACES UP TO TEN YEARS IN PRISON WHEN U-S DISTRICT JUDGE RICHARD HAIK SENTENCES HIM.  FEDERAL PROSECUTOR STEPHANIE FINLEY SAYS KELLY SENT EXPLICIT PHOTOS AND MESSAGES TO A 13-YEAR-OLD LAKE CHARLES GIRL.  HE ALSO TALKED TO THE GIRL ABOUT TRAVELING TO LOUISIANA TO BE WITH HER.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD YESTERDAY FOR AN ABBEVILLE MAN WHO DIED LAST THURSDAY IN AN OFFSHORE PLATFORM EXPLOSION.  HUNDREDS OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS ATTENDED THE SERVICE TO REMEMBER 24-YEAR-OLD JERREL BUBBA HANCOCK.  HE WAS CLEANING A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT ON THE ECHO PLATFORM, LOCATED 12 MILES OFF THE COAST NEAR THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI, WHEN AN ISOLATED PRESSURE EVENT OCCURRED, CAUSING THE EXPLOSION.  HANCOCK HAD A WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN.

State police say a 47-year-old Lafayette man, who collected more than $83,000 in disability benefits, is accused of operating two businesses out of his home at a time when he claimed he had no income.  During their investigation, state police say it was discovered that 47-year-old Alan Jude Bernard also had committed tax fraud through the auto sales business.  Troopers say Bernard filed false statements to the Social Security Administration and the Louisiana Department of Disability Determination Services when he applied for disability benefits.  Police say he’s also accused of illegally lowering the sales prices on his auto-sales receipts to reduce tax costs.
