LAFAYETTE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A SHOOTING THAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT AT THE NORTHGATE MALL. POLICE SAY ONE PERSON WAS SHOT IN THE PARKING LOT NEAR PLANET FITNESS. THAT PERSON WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. SEVERAL EYEWITNESSES TOLD KLFY TV THERE WAS A FIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT BEFORE THE SHOTS WERE FIRED.
Police in Baldwin are defending their handling of the disappearance of a Black teenager who was found dead earlier this month. Baldwin Assistant Police Chief Samuel Wise says the search for 15-year-old Quawan “Bobby” Charles began soon after his mother reported him missing on Oct. 30. Wise said the case did not appear to warrant issuing an Amber Alert for a missing child. Charles’ body was found in some water in Iberia Parish woods on Nov. 3.
Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards has been hospitalized with pneumonia, only days after he was released from a prior stay for breathing problems. Trina Edwards, the four-term Democratic former governor’s wife, says Edwin Edwards became “very ill” Tuesday evening and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. She says her husband has pneumonia in both lungs and was expected to be hospitalized for several days. The 93-year-old Edwin Edwards spent the prior weekend in a Baton Rouge hospital for respiratory problems.

A MAN INVOLVED IN A TWO HOUR STANDOFF WITH ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES TUESDAY NIGHT IN BRANCH HAS HAD SOME OF THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM DROPPED. THE ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE ASKED THE JUDGE TO DROP SIX CHARGES OF ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER OF A PEACE OFFICER AGAINST THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD JIVESTON HEBERT. SHERIFF K-P GIBSON SAYS THEY DETERMINED IN THEIR INVESTIGATION THAT HEBERT DID NOT FIRE ANY SHOTS AT THE DEPUTIES. GIBSON SAYS THE OTHER CHARGES AGAINST HEBERT WILL REMAIN.
