THE FAMILY OF A HIT-AND-RUN VICTIM IN SAINT MARTIN PARISH GATHERED AT THE BROUSSARD SPORTS COMPLEX YESTERDAY FOR A BALLOON RELEASE IN HIS MEMORY.  CHESTER THIBEAUX WAS STRUCK AND KILLED WHILE WALKING ALONG L-A NINETY-SIX IN LATE SEPTEMBER.  THE DRIVER, JAMES CELESTINE, LATER TURNED HIMSELF IN AND WAS CHARGED WITH HIT AND RUN, CARELESS OPERATION AND DRIVING UNDER SUSPENSION.  THIBEAUX’S FAMILY EXPRESSED OUTRAGE THAT CELESTINE HAD NOT BEEN CHARGED WITH VEHICULAR HOMOCIDE.

A POLICE CHASE THAT BEGAN ON L-A TWENTY-SEVEN IN CAMERON PARISH ENDED ON I-TWO-TEN IN LAKE CHARLES LAST NIGHT.  CAMERON PARISH DETECTIVES PURSUED THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE AFTER HE FAILED TO STOP FOR A SPEEDING VIOLATION.  THE DRIVER WENT THROUGH LAKE CHARLES BEFORE STOPPING ALONG I-TWO-TEN AT MILE MARKER SIX, WHERE HE WAS ARRESTED.  STATE POLICE JOINED THE CHASE WHEN THE DRIVER ENTERED CALCASIEU PARISH.

The United Methodist Church has cut ties with 58 churches in its Louisiana conference amid a nationwide schism within the Protestant denomination. The disaffiliations approved Saturday are the latest in a series of decisions many Louisiana churches made in recent weeks to leave the national congregation. The congregation’s delegates voted in favor of the departures by a wide margin Saturday at a virtual conference session. The debates concern the denomination’s bans on same-sex marriages and ordaining openly LGBTQ clergy.

A MAN WAS SHOT AND KILLED ON MALAPART ROAD IN LAFAYETTE JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT SATURDAY.  THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS STILL TRYING TO IDENTIFY THE VICTIM.  HE’S DESCRIBED AS HISPANIC AND IN HIS TWENTIES OR THIRTIES.  ANYONE WITH INFORMAITON ON THE SHOOTING OR THE VICTIM IS ASKED TO CALL THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE.

CONGRESSMAN CLAY HIGGINS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED A TWENTY-FIVE MILLION DOLLAR PURCHASE OF GULF SHRIMP TO HELP THE STRUGGLING LOUISIANA SHRIMPING INDUSTRY.  THOMAS SCHOUEST JUNIOR FROM IBERIA PARISH TELLS KLFY TV THAT IT’S A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BUT A LOT MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE.  SCHOEST SAYS THE ONGOING PROBLEM FOR GULF SHRIMPERS IS THE IMPORTS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES.  HIGGINS SAYS IN A REPORT THAT HE HAS INTRODUCED WAYS TO COMBAT FOREIGN IMPORTS OF SEAFOOD TO HELP PROTECT AMERICAN PRODUCERS.

LAKE CHARLES POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A HOMOCIDE THAT HAPPENED EARLY SATURDAY MORNING.  POLICE RECEIVED AN EMERGENCY CALL AT AROUND SEVEN-TWENTY THAT MORNING AND, UPON ARRIVAL, FOUND A HOMOCIDE HAD OCCURRED.  THE CAUSE OF DEATH AND THE NAME OF THE VICTIM HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED.  ANYONE WITH INFORMATION THAT CAN HELP THE INVESTIGATION IS ASKED TO CALL THE LAKE CHARLES POLICE DEPARTMENT.

THE RUNOFF ELECTION IN LOUISIANA TAKES PLACE IN LESS THAN FOUR WEEKS.  DANIELLE JOHNSON GIVES US A FEW DEADLINES TO KEEP IN MIND.
