Almost four months after two women were shot to death and nine others wounded, the Grand 16 Theatre in Lafayette will reopen next week.  The New Orleans Advocate reports City-Parish President Joey Durel Monday toured the theater and purchased the first ticket for the Nov. 19 opening.  The theater has been closed since Alabama gunman John Houser opened fire July 23 about 20 minutes into a showing of the film “Trainwreck.” Houser committed suicide as police entered the auditorium.

SOME SULPHUR FIRE FIGHTERS SHOWED UP AT LAST NIGHT’S CITY COUNCIL MEETING TO FIND OUT WHAT’S GOING ON WITH NEGOTIATIONS ON A NEW CONTRACT.  THE CITY SENT FIREFIGHTERS A LETTER IN SEPTEMBER SAYING THAT THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT WAS UP FOR TERMINATION ON DECEMBER SEVENTH.  THE COUNCIL MET IN EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS THE MATTER.  SHANNON CLARK, THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE SULPHUR PROFESSIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS ASSOCIATION LOCAL 3765, SAYS THEY HOPE TO HEAR FROM THE CITY BEFORE DECEMBER SEVENTH.

TWO MARKSVILLE CITY MARSHALS, CHARGED IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF SIX-YEAR-OLD JEREMY DAVID MARDIS AND CRITICALLY WOUNDING HIS FATHER, HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED TO AN ALEXANDRIA JAIL, BECAUSE THEY ARE BETTER ABLE TO SEPARATE THEM FROM THE PRISON POPULATION.  DISTRICT JUDGE WILLIAM BENNET SET BOND AT ONE MILLION DOLLARS EACH FOR NORRIS GREENHOUSE JUNIOR AND DERRICK STAFFORD, WHO ARE CHARGED WITH SECOND DEGREE MURDER AND ATTEMPTED SECOND DEGREE MURDER.  THE JUDGE ALSO PUT A GAG ORDER ON ALL ATTORNEYS, POTENTIAL WITNESSES AND VICTIMS.  THE ATTORNEY FOR THE FATHER, CHRIS FEW, TOLD THE ASSOCIATED PRESS VIDEO FOOTAGE SHOWS FEW WITH HIS HANDS UP BEFORE SHOTS WERE FIRED AT THE VEHICLE HE AND HIS SON OCCUPIED.

Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter sought to draw policy contrasts with his Democratic opponent in the Louisiana governor’s race, as the two men faced off for the first time in the runoff campaign.  Vitter, who is lagging in the polls, told a crowd at the Baton Rouge Press Club on Monday that he and state Rep. John Bel Edwards have “starkly different” political philosophies.  Vitter described Edwards as liberal, saying he was allied with unions and trial lawyers, opposed charter school expansion and would work against Louisiana business interests.  Edwards said he has a state legislative record of working with members of both parties and operates in the “center of the political spectrum.”

After months of attacks about the issue, Republican candidate for governor David Vitter is addressing his prostitution scandal in a new television ad — though without using the word.  The 30-second spot, released Monday, features Vitter sitting at a kitchen table as he talks to the camera, saying: “Fifteen years ago, I failed my family but found forgiveness and love.”  Vitter, a U.S. senator, apologized in 2007 for a “serious sin” after he was linked through phone records to Washington’s “D.C. Madam.”  In the ad, Vitter says, “Our falls aren’t what define us, but rather how we get up, accept responsibility and earn redemption.”

THIRTY YEARS AGO TODAY, THE CAJUNDOME OPENED IN LAFAYETTE.  THE NEXT EVENING, THE CAJUNDOME HOSTED ITS FIRST EVENT WITH A KENNY ROGERS CONCERT THAT STILL HAS THE ALL TIME ATTENDANCE RECORD OF 14-THOUSAND.  NEXT YEAR, THE CAJUNDOME WILL CLOSE ON MAY 28TH AND REOPEN IN DECEMBER SO TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF RENOVATIONS CAN BE MADE TO THE INTERIOR.  ALSO WORK WILL BE DONE ON THE ROOF TO RID IT OF MILDEW BEGINNING, PROBABLY, IN MARCH.

THE LOUISIANA STATE POLICE HELD A CEREMONY IN LAKE CHARLES YESTERDAY TO SAY THANKS TO FOUR MEN WHO CAME TO THE AID OF FALLEN STATE TROOPER STEVEN VINCENT.  VINCENT WAS FATALLY SHOT DURING A TRAFFIC STOP NEAR BELL CITY.  ROBERT LEDOUX, CHARLES BERCIER, AND SAMUEL EDMONDSON EACH RECEIVED A CERTIFICATE AND THE MEDAL OF VALOR, WHICH IS THE HIGHEST AWARD THE STATE POLICE CAN PRESENT A CITIZEN.  THE FOURTH MAN, MIKE LANTHIER, DID NOT ATTEND THE CEREMONY.
