A LAFAYETTE MAN WAS KILLED IN A CRASH NEAR MILE MARKER NINETY-FIVE ON INTERSTATE TEN AT AROUND ONE A-M YESTERDAY. FIFTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD KEVIN DAVIS WAS A PASSENGER IN A DODGE CARAVAN THAT WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY A B-M-W. ACCORDING TO STATE POLICE, THE COLLISION CAUSED BOTH VEHICLES TO GO OFF THE ROADWAY AND INTO THE TREE LINE. DAVIS, WHO WAS NOT WEARING A SEATBELT, WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. MEANWHILE, BOTH DRIVERS, WHO WERE ALSO UNRESTRAINED, ARE AT LOCAL HOSPITALS IN CRITICAL CONDITION.

The head of the Louisiana State Police will retire from the job at the end of the month. Col. Kevin Reeves’ decision comes amid ongoing questions about the death of a Black man in the law enforcement agency’s custody and the secrecy around the encounter that is now subject to a federal civil rights investigation. Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Reeves’ retirement Tuesday. No replacement was immediately named.
A 71-year-old Deridder man is in custody, accused of stabbing to death his 80-year-old wife. DeRidder Police responded to a 911 call around 1 a.m. Wednesday and officers found Lucille Harrison inside a home, dead of what appeared to be stab wounds. Police said, in a post on Facebook, that her husband, Sidney Harrison, was transported to a local hospital with an injury to his arm. After getting treatment, authorities charged him with second-degree murder.
THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TRANSITIONING TO PHASE THREE OF THEIR LEARN LAFAYETTE PLAN, ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE. THAT MEANS, BEGINNING NOVEMBER NINTH, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WILL RETURN TO SCHOOL ON A STAGGERED SCHEDULE. STUDENTS ATTENDING THE ONLINE ACADEMY WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO RETURN TO CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION DURING THE PHASE CHANGE. THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM WILL CLOSELY MONITOR COVID-NINETEEN LEVELS AND COULD RETURN TO PHASE ONE OR TWO IF IT IS DEEMED NECESSARY.
THE IBERIA PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM IS SCALING BACK HYBRID LEARNING. THE SCHOOL BOARD SAYS THEY ARE MOVING BACK TO FACE-TO-FACE INSTRUCTION. IT WILL BEGIN ON NOVEMBER SIXTEENTH.
TEN MORE DEATHS FROM COVID-NINETEEN WERE REPORTED YESTERDAY IN LOUISIANA. THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ALSO REPORTED THIRTEEN MORE HOSPITALIZATIONS. HOWEVER, THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS ON VENTILATORS DECREASED BY ELEVEN. THERE ARE FOUR HUNDRED FORTY-TWO NEW CASES OF COVID-NINETEEN, MOVING THE OVERALL TOTAL PAST ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-ONE THOUSAND.
ACADIANA HAD TWO MORE DEATHS FROM COVID-NINETEEN, MOVING THE TOTAL TO SEVEN HUNDRED THIRTY-ONE. THE TWO DEATHS WERE IN IBERIA AND ST. MARTIN PARISHES. THERE WAS ONE MORE DEATH IN SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA, WHICH WAS IN ALLEN PARISH. THE TOTAL IS THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY-FIVE. ACADIANA HAD FORTY-TWO NEW CASES OF COVID-NINETEEN, INCLUDING TWELVE IN ST. MARTIN PARISH. SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA ADDED TWENTY-NINE CASES, INCLUDING SEVENTEEN IN CALCASIEU PARISH.
