Louisiana’s temporary housing program for people displaced by Hurricane Ida is increasing its pace of getting people into travel trailers nearly two months after the storm wrecked southeastern parishes. Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration says the state has bought 2,000 trailers to distribute to storm victims. By Wednesday, 68 of those trailers have families living in them. That’s five times the number from a week earlier.

Families affected by Hurricane Ida now have until Nov. 29 to apply for FEMA disaster help. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the deadline was set to occur on Thursday, but now homeowners and renters who live in 25 parishes have until next month to apply. The affected parishes include: Iberia, St. Martin, and St. Mary. FEMA’s disaster assistance can help pay for rental assistance, temporary housing and other expenses not covered by insurance.
