THE LAFAYETTE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD’S EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE HAS EXTENDED THE CONTRACT OF SUPERINTENDENT DONALD AGUILLARD BY SIX WEEKS TO JUNE 30, 2019.  THAT’S SO AGUILLARD CAN GET HIS FULL POTENTIAL RETIREMENT PAYMENTS.  THE FULL SCHOOL BOARD HAS TO APPROVE IT.  HOWEVER, AGUILLARD SAYS HE DOESN’T PLAN TO RETIRE THEN AND HOPES TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH THE BOARD ON EXTENDING THE CONTRACT EVEN FURTHER.

 

A RECALL PETITION FILED AGAINST THE MAYOR OF WELSH MAY HAVE BEEN FRAUDULENT.  THE PERSON LISTED AS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE RECALL EFFORT, JEANELL JACKSON VITAL, INFORMED THE MAYOR THAT SHE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL.  THE RECALL PETITION WAS TYPED AND HAD NO SIGNATURES, BUT, IT TURNS OUT THE LAW DOES NOT REQUIRE SIGNATURES.  ATTORNEY RON RICHARD, WHO REPRESENTS WELSH MAYOR CAROLYN LOUVIERE, SAYS HE HAS FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST ALDERMAN COLBY PERRY ACCUSING HIM OF FILING OR CONSPIRING TO FILE A FRAUDULENT RECALL PETITION.

 

A CROWLEY MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED AFTER POLICE SEIZED ALMOST NINE THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF ILLEGAL DRUGS.  JEFF HORCHAK HAS MORE.

House Republicans have released details of spending controls they want from Gov. John Bel Edwards in exchange for considering taxes to fill Louisiana’s $1 billion budget gap.  The items proposed by House Speaker Taylor Barras in a three-page list Tuesday had been talked about broadly in the ongoing budget and tax negotiations. But the list has specific details, in response to the Democratic governor’s push for additional information.  The proposals would tighten limits on annual state spending growth, create a new website to track state spending, charge some Medicaid patients a copay for services and medications and enact work requirements on certain Medicaid enrollees.

 

A LAFAYETTE FIREFIGHTER HAS BEEN ARRESTED BY SCOTT POLICE FOR TERRORIZING HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND.  45-YEAR-OLD BRENT SAVOY OF SCOTT IS ALLEGED TO HAVE CREATED A SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT PRETENDING TO BE HER AND POSTING PRIVATE PHOTOS OF HER WHICH SHE HAD SENT HIM IN THE PAST.  HE POSTED REVIEWS OF THE VICTIM ON THE PAGE WITH DEFAMING STATEMENTS.  SAVOY IS ALSO ACCUSED OF THREATENING TO POST MORE PRIVATE IMAGES OF HER IF SHE DIDN’T TALK TO HIM.

 

A PROJECT TO REDECK THE I-210 BRIDGE IN LAKE CHARLES IS SET TO BEGIN TOWARDS THE END OF THE YEAR.  IT WILL BE AN INCONVENIENCE FOR MOTORISTS WHO USE THE BRIDGE BECAUSE ONE LANE AT A TIME WILL BE CLOSED ON EACH SIDE OF THE BRIDGE.  THAT MEANS DRIVERS SHOULD EXPECT THEIR COMMUTE TO LAST AN ADDITIONAL 15 TO 20 MINUTES.  THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO TAKE ABOUT THREE YEARS TO COMPLETE.

 

AN 18 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT ON I-TEN BETWEEN GROSS TETE AND HENDERSON WILL BEGIN ON APRIL FIRST.  THE PROJECT INCLUDES CLEANING, PAINTING, REPAIRING CONCRETE AND METAL BRIDGE STRUCTURES, AND RELATED WORK.  THE WORK WILL BE 24 HOURS A DAY AND THERE WILL BE SOME SINGLE LANE CLOSURES THAT WILL OCCUR MOSTLY IN THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.  THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY JUNE OF NEXT YEAR.

 

A federal judge has refused to order a temporary halt to construction of a crude oil pipeline through the Atchafalay Basin.  U.S. District Judge Shelly Dick on Tuesday denied environmental groups’ request for a temporary restraining order that could have suspended work on the Bayou Bridge pipeline project pending a hearing next week.  The groups sued the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Jan. 11. The suit accuses the Corps of violating the Clean Water Act and other environmental laws when it approved a permit for the 162-mile-long pipeline project in December.
