THE HEAD OF THE LOUISIANA OFFICE OF ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO CONTROL WARNED THE OWNERS OF 15 LAFAYETTE BARS AND CLUBS THAT THEY COULD BE SHUT DOWN UNLESS THEY COME UP WITH A PLAN TO CURTAIL ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES AT THEIR ESTABLISHMENTS. TROY HEBERT SAYS THEY CONDUCTED A THREE MONTH UNDERCOVER OPERATION WHICH RESULTED IN CITATIONS FOR THE 15 BARS FOR THINGS LIKE SELLING ALCOHOL TO MINORS, ILLEGAL DRUG ACTIVITY AND OPERATING WITHOUT AN ALCOHOL PERMIT. HE GATHERED THE OWNERS AT STATE POLICE TROOP I HEADQUARTERS YESTERDAY AND CHASTISED THEM, SAYING THEY WERE WARNED BEFORE BEING WRITTEN UP. HE SAYS THE OWNERS AND MANAGERS WILL HAVE HEARINGS IN BATON ROUGE OVER THE NEXT TWO MONTHS.





A GEORGIA MAN, WHO HAD MORE THAN 144 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN STOLEN SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS IN HIS POSSESSION WHEN POLICE STOPPED HIS VEHICLE IN LOUISIANA LAST YEAR, HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO NEARLY FOUR YEARS IN PRISON. JULIE DARCY HAS MORE.







THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER FOR ST. MARY PARISH SCHOOLS SAYS CONSTRUCTION ON A NEW JUNIOR HIGH FOR PATTERSON WILL LIKELY NOT BEGIN UNTIL LATE NEXT YEAR. VOTERS APPROVED A BOND ISSUE LAST MONTH TO PAY FOR THE JUNIOR HIGH, AND ALTON RAY PERRY SAYS THE BONDS WON’T BE SOLD UNTIL JUNE OF NEXT YEAR OR LATER. THE 21 MILLION DOLLAR BOND ISSUE APPROVED BY VOTERS ALSO WILL COVER THE COST OF A NEW MULTIPURPOSE BUILDING FOR HATTIE WATTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND HE SAYS WORK ON THAT COULD BEGIN SOONER. PERRY SAYS THE NEW JUNIOR HIGH BUILDING WAS NEEDED BECAUSE THE EXISTING BUILDING IS OVERCROWDED AND IS IN NEED OF MAJOR REPAIRS TO THE FOUNDATION.





Louisiana has brought in enough money from its amnesty period for delinquent taxpayers to keep the state's operating budget balanced. The Department of Revenue announced Monday that the program raked in the $200 million that lawmakers anticipated to pay for health care services this year. And the department expects to surpass that after processing all applications received as the amnesty period ended last week. The program's success will keep lawmakers and Gov. Bobby Jindal from scrambling in the second half of the fiscal year to rebalance the $25.4 billion budget.

THE LAFAYETTE CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN ACQUIRING THE PROPERTY THROUGH FEDERAL GRANTS, WHICH REQUIRES THAT IT BE KEPT AS A PRESERVE.





A JENNINGS WOMAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH INDECENT BEHAVIOR WITH A JUVENILE. 24-YEAR-OLD RENEE FRUGE WAS ARRESTED YESTERDAY. CHRISTOPHER IVEY WITH THE JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THE VICTIM ALLEGES THAT FRUGE INAPPROPRIATELY TOUCHED HER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BETWEEN JULY AND OCTOBER. NO BOND WAS SET.





A FORMER CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER WAS ARRESTED BY THE IBERIA PARISH SHERIFF’S JUVENILE DETECTIVE DIVISION ON FRIDAY FOR CHILD MOLESTATION. INVESTIGATORS RECEIVED INFORMATION THAT 48-YEAR-OLD PAULA LATIOLAIS ALLEGEDLY HAD INAPPROPRIATE ENCOUNTERS WITH A MALE STUDENT, IT IS BELIEVED TO HAVE HAPPENED ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO WHEN THE STUDENT WAS 15 YEARS OLD AND THE ENCOUNTERS OCCURRED OVER SEVERAL YEARS. LATIOLAIS WAS BOOKED INTO THE IBERIA PARISH JAIL.





A 38-year-old Charenton man has pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman and a Chitimacha tribal police officer. U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley says David Frederick entered the plea last week before U.S. District Judge Richard T. Haik. He faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release for the assault on the officer. A sentencing date has not been set.
