Authorities in coastal Alabama say a 17-year-old boy has fallen to his death from a condominium balcony. Orange Beach Assistant Police Chief Greg Duck tells WKRG-TV that an unidentified teen who was visiting from Lafayette was found lying in the parking lot of the Tidewater condominium complex Tuesday morning.
Duck says the teen was airlifted to a hospital in Pensacola and later died. This summer, at least two people have plunged from balconies in Orange Beach and one fell from a balcony in Gulf Shores.

BP is balking at paying more than $130 million in administrative fees for the court-supervised administrator of its multi-billion dollar settlement with Gulf Coast businesses and residents after the 2010 Gulf oil spill. A federal magistrate has scheduled a hearing on Wednesday for BP to show why it shouldn't be ordered to fund claims administrator Patrick Juneau's proposed third-quarter budget. In a letter dated Monday, a BP claims official said the company cannot determine if Juneau's budget request is reasonable without more documentation. Separately, BP has asked a judge to suspend all settlement payments while former FBI Director Louis Freeh investigates alleged fraud in the settlement program.
THE LAFAYETTE CITY PARISH COUNCIL VOTED 5-TO-4 AGAINST THE CREATION OF A COMMISSION THAT WOULD CONSIDER CHANGES TO THE CHARTER. A PROPOSAL HAD BEEN DISCUSSED IN WHICH ONLY THE FIVE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL WITHIN THE LAFAYETTE CITY LIMITS WOULD VOTE ON ISSUES AFFECTING THE CITY ONLY, SUCH AS THE BUDGETS OF LAFAYETTE UTILITIES SYSTEM AND THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS. THE FOUR COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO REPRESENT DISTRICTS OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS WERE JOINED BY ANDY NAQUIN IN VOTING AGAINST THE CREATION OF THE COMMISSION. NAQUIN SAYS THE CURRENT SYSTEM IS WORKING AND HE WILL NOT TURN HIS BACK ON THE PEOPLE OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS.
FOUR PEOPLE IN WESTLAKE WERE ARRESTED AT A HOME ON SHAFER STREET MONDAY AFTERNOON ON CHARGES OF DRUG POSSESSION AND DRUG USE IN THE PRESENCE OF MINORS. THE HOME OWNER, 32-YEAR-OLD LOUIS JAMES STODDARD, WAS ALSO CHARGED WITH FAILING TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER. STODDARD REMAINED IN JAIL AS OF TUESDAY. ALSO ARRESTED WAS 39-YEAR-OLD TIFFANY SOILEAU OF WESTLAKE, AND 45-YEAR-OLD RICHARD BURKE AND 26-YEAR-OLD TIFFANY MECHELLE MILLS, BOTH OF ANACOCO.

THE DRIVER WAS A WHITE MALE, BELIEVED TO BE IN HIS EARLY TO MID-THIRTIES, AND HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A YOUNG BOY. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will attend a big Republican conference in Michigan in September. The Michigan Republican Party says Jindal will speak at the 30th Biennial Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference on Mackinac Island. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was previously announced as a speaker, and additional speakers will be announced at a later date. Jindal, a potential GOP presidential candidate in 2016, chairs the Republican Governors Association.
