THE BODY OF A DECOMPOSING MAN WAS FOUND LAST NIGHT BY A 13-YEAR-OLD BOY WHO WAS RIDING A FOUR-WHEELER, ACCORDING TO THE ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE. THE BODY WAS FOUND AT THE ENTRANCE TO AN OIL FIELD WELL SITE OFF OF HAWK’S ROAD IN ROBERTS COVE. THE ACADIA PARISH CORONER’S OFFICE BELIEVES THE BODY HAD BEEN THERE LESS THAN A WEEK. MAXINE TRAHAN OF THE ACADIA PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THEY ARE TREATING IT AS A HOMOCIDE AND THE BODY IS BEING SENT TO LAKE CHARLES FOR AN AUTOPSY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF DEATH.





Doctors will be banned in Louisiana from remotely administering the abortion pill via a video hookup. The Senate gave final passage Thursday to the bill prohibiting the procedure criticized as "telemedicine abortion." The final vote was 36-2.

The measure by Sen. Fred Mills heads next to Gov. Bobby Jindal, who supports it.





A LAFAYETTE JURY HAS FOUND WILLIE J. ROBERTSON GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER IN THE DEATH OF 86-YEAR-OLD IRENE SCHOOFS IN 1999. SCHOOFS DIED OF A HEART ATTACK AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM GROCERY SHOPPING AND SEEING ROBERTSON BURGLARIZING HER HOME. THE JURY CONSIDERED A SECOND DEGREE MURDER CHARGE BUT SETTLED ON THE MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE INSTEAD. SCHOOF’S SON-IN-LAW, RAYMOND CORDOVA, TOLD THE ADVERTISER THAT THE FAMILY IS SATISFIED WITH THE JURY’S DECISION. ROBERTSON FACES UP TO FORTY YEARS IN PRISON.

Gov. Bobby Jindal has agreed that Louisiana's drivers should skip the Facebook and Twitter updates while on the road. Jindal signed into law Thursday a bill that widens the law banning texting while driving, to also prohibit posting to social media sites while behind the wheel. The new law takes effect Aug. 1.

Violators will face a traffic fine of up to $175 for the first offense and up to $500 for second and subsequent violations.
